5 month old baby losing weight FF

Booked into clinic to be weighed properly Thursday but I'm just concerned and confused, wondered if anyone could shed some light

My baby is just turning 5 months old this week, formula fed since three weeks old. Always been on 81st centile and gained weight really well. I stand on the scales with her every now and again to track her weight on my huckleberry app. 21 days ago she was 16lb2. Weighed last week and she was still 16lb2. Thought to myself I must have logged it incorrectly 21 days ago and didn't think much else of it.

Weighed her again this morning and now the scales tell me she's 16lb, so 2oz less than last week and 21 days ago guessing that wasn't an incorrect log of weight. I triple checked and checked again, had my partner stand on scales etc, and it still says 16lb.

So she's gone from the 81st to 68th.... she drinks 25-30oz a day, isn't sick at all and poos about once a day.

Really confused? feel like I'm losing my mind!

I weigh my DD this way and find the same thing happens. According to the scales she’s stayed the same or lost every time I weigh her but I can definitely tell she’s gained. I think it’s better if you get her weighed properly to give you peace of mind!

Had she been weighed in the same scales each time? That can make big difference.

Just to add though that she should be on 40 floz a day according to her weight. Is there any way she'll take more formula?

@BunnyRuddington yeah always the same scales.

I offer her 6oz every 2.5-3 hours when she shows her hunger signs and most of the time she has 4-5 oz occasionally she will take the full 6. If she just has 4-5 I offer her the bottle a few more times after and sometimes she'll have a bit more, didn't realise she was meant to be on about 40oz. She's pretty much always taken the same daily amount :(

Some babies take more milk than others so I wouldn't worry that she isn't taking 40oz. Your scales won't be that accurate if you're having to do the difference between your weight and the total weight. If she's happy in herself and peeing and pooing then I wouldn't be worrying at all. There's no need to keep weighing her every few weeks.

What scales are you using? Baby scales or adult ones. Sometimes the adult ones are a bit off and not that accurate when it comes to oz or even the odd lb.

Also are you weighing her at the same time each time? As in if you weigh her after a poo but before a feed she'd weigh less than if you weigh her before her poo and after a feed.

Your own scales aren't accurate enough to weigh a baby on.
I have 2 sets of scales and they can show a slightly different result if I weighed myself 3 times within 5 minutes.
Can I ask why you are weighing your baby so much? Are you worried about their health, nappies, milestones?

TensmumT · 30/06/2021 20:08

If baby is giving you dirty/wet nappies and seems content after feeds I wouldn't worry. I was on the verge of buying a baby scale off amazon when ds was few weeks old, I'm so glad I haven't!! I'd be obssessed over his weight, whether he's gained etc and it wouldve created unnecessary stress. Please stop worrying, and pps have said about adult scales, don't bother. Maybe call hv to discuss?
