Breastfeeding with reattached TT

Evening ladies.

My DD had her TT snipped at day 3 and for a little while, I seemed to have enough milk for her. Around 3/4 months I had to start supplementing with formula. At the time I did suspect TT reattachment but was dismissed as I wasn't finding feeding her as painful as when she was born (shabby, lipstick nipples where she could barely latch)- was constantly just told I "just" had low supply. Fast fwd to 8 months, it was confirmed by an LC that her tongue was slightly restricted (partial reattachment). We decided not to snip it again as the first time around was quite traumatic for both of us and I was advised that there was no guarantee that snipping would improve her latch and my supply. At the moment I am combination feeding although it's obvious she prefers the breast to bottle. My question is- has anyone else managed to continue BF when the tongue tie has partially reattached, and how long did you BF for? I am keen to continue for as long as possible. She is almost 10m now but doesn't seem to have reduced her formula intake. Also with time and as she gets bigger, there any chance she would get better at extracting milk from the breast despite the TT?

Thanks

Although I don't have personal experience of a reattached TT, I didn't want to leave you with no replies.

If the TT is partially reattached, the restricted movement will make feeding more tiring for your baby. This means she may become too tired to continue for long, or fall asleep before she finishes a feed. Hence needing the top ups, and all this in turn will have affected your supply, which will have adjusted to a slight drop in demand. This isn't irreversible by the way. If your baby improves at feeding or if you pump, your supply will increase again. Because your baby is bigger now, with a larger mouth and more flexible tongue (despite the TT), this is probably why it's no longer painful. Your baby can still feed reasonably effectively, but gets tired doing so. Does this resonate at all?

As your baby grows and gets older, hopefully flexibility will improve even more, and being older will hopefully mean your baby doesn't tire as easily. There is certainly no need to think BF is coming to an end. You can continue as long as you like, but it might be worth talking things through again with a BF counsellor or lactation consultant to discuss options and get a second opinion x
