Today was one of those days when I'm so proud that I'm breastfeeding still.

DD - 19th months had to have an MRI scan at hospital today. She couldn't eat or breastfeed after 7am and the scan wasn't till the afternoon so I was really really flapping. Anyway, the day went really well, the staff were lovley. Luckily the sedation worked a treat so dd didn't need a general anaesthetic. We distracted dd all morning with toys and stickers and crappy plasticy stuff I got at the pound shop! She only asked for 'mi-mi' about 30 seconds before the sedative kicked in! After the scan she slept for 3 hours then woke up, cried and looked at me and asked for 'mi-mi' so I fed her then, 10 mins later she wanted more and had the other side! It was lovely to be able to breastfeed her and see what an enormous comfort it was for her. Also wonderful because the nurse actually suggested I breastfed her as soon as she woke up and came in when she was feeding to tell me how lovely it was to see her feeding! So, one of those days when I feel so proud to be breastfeeding my little love even if (as my sister told me tonight) the whole world thinks I'm a 'breastfeeding loon'!

Astrophe · 21/11/2007 22:06

and from another loon Well done you, DD is lucky

Awww, well done you. DS1 had to have an MRI when he was two and a bit - it's such a stressful day, having to distract them from the thought of food for ten hours or so. I remember that there was a play kitchen and a load of plastic food in the children's ward when we were waiting, and poor little DS1 and another girl in the same boat were sitting folornly by a plastic table desperately trying to eat plastic food...

Hope you get reassuring results.

policywonk - we had the same thing today - lovely play kitchen and dd drooling over a slice of plastic pizza!

great story well done you and your dd. How nice that the nurse was so encouraging too - it shouldn't be remarkable - but it is.

Jenkeywoo. It's really a bit cruel isn't it?

Jenkeywoo · 21/11/2007 22:24

yes quite weird that we spent all morning having surreptitious sips of water behind the curtain only to be confronted by piles and piles of plastic food.
