Aptamil - can it give babies rashes?

My little one is 13 weeks old, he has had problems pooing since he was about 5 weeks old, but I was constantly told he had an immature digestive system and it would resolve itself. However, he is now pooing once every 5/6 days and strains really hard when doing so, his face goes the color of a tomato and he screams. He also recently started getting patches of dry skin all over his body.

I changed his milk four days ago to HIPP organic after hearing people rant about it. The day after I change his milk he pooped, it was like always with a red face and a lot of screaming, but he hasn’t pooped since. I then noticed yesterday that his patches of dry skin have also gone.

My question is, can aptamil cause a rash on babies and cause constipation?

Since he has been on HIPP he has been straining more but with no red face and no poo? I don’t know if these are linked or just a coincidence

Any help is appreciated!

Aptamil doesn't seem to suit a few babies, well that's just judging from the posters on this section, but what you are describing sounds a little more than a problem with a certain brand.

Has any discussed the possibility of CMPA with you?

When he was four weeks old we was put on Aptamil pepti 1 and I kept him on it for five days and it made him worse so I switched him back to normal aptamil and he was not screaming anymore...maybe I was too premature and should've called the doctor back to tell him it had made it worse?

If he was put on Pepti 1, it does sound as though the Doctor suspects CMPA.

Pepti 1 is made from Cow's Milk, so he may need a completely dairy free formula.

I'd maybe give the Allergy UK helpline a call in the morning?

My little one was like this. Turned out to be CMPA
