Does anybody know why it is not recommended to wear them until a few months after breastfeeing stops ?

so long as your bra fits well then you can wear underwired

I've been wearing an underwired bra for the past 3 months, am still feeding...just kinda shift the cup? I've not had any problems.

I also went back to underwiring when I could bear flour sack boobs no longer - didn't have any effect on my milk production at all. When I went to get my new bras the lady at Rigby and Peller mentioned that there is now an underwired feeding bra so that might be worth looking into.

there's another link or two on bras further down but most recommend the Anita underwired one and someone posted up a lovely sexy french bra also... Both have drop-down cups... Haven't bought yet but will do when sure boos finally settled down (am BF 13 week old) will try and find links later

I switched back to my normal underwires when DS was 11 months, but still feeding. They are if anything a little baggy in the cup (which is good as they are huge anyway). DS doesn't feed much during the day now, but if he does I just pull the cup down. No probs with blocked ducts etc.

Couldn't stand those awful saggy nursing bras anymore, I'm surpised I stuck them for so long

Based upon my own feeding experience (and not on anything 'scientific') I think that if you're still feeding after, say, 6-8m, and the baby is taking solids as well, you don't come to any particular harm from wearing underwires.

I suspect that the advice is given with the majortiy of bfing mums in mind, who don't feed for longer than 4-6m. Until my babies were eating solids, and no longer having frequent bfeeds at fairly regular intervals, I found that my boobs were far more responsive to supply-and-demand, and far more likely to get lumpy if I missed a feed or wore an u/w bra (on an evening out, for example) without missing a feed.

I have this one. It looks lovely, but the drop down cup is a hook and eye like the ones at the back. They're a pita to fasten with one hand, but there are 3 levels of hook for when you are particularly full.

Just make sure you are measured/fitted properly as my DW had issues after the babies as her breasts had grown and the underwire caused a lump to appear under her breast.

I found it on one of my regular ((ahem)) 'checks' and we were worried about it til we were told by the hospital it was caused by the underwire rubbing and was harmless.

After getting some new ones it gradually went away.

Not something you want to happen though because of the obvious worry caused until the diagnosis.
