Any advice about my 15 week old would be gratefully appreciated as I’m exhausted and don’t know what to do. He was ravenous up until recently and would gobble up anything but now we’re wrestling to get him fed.
We’ve had feeding issues from the start and finally managed to get his tongue tie divided two weeks ago. His fussiness particularly at the feed before bed started before his TT was divided and I thought maybe it was due to the rotavirus vaccine upsetting his tum which he’d had over two weeks ago.
He feeds fine during the night and the number and length of night feeds has gone up. He also feeds ok in the morning, then during the day will feed for about 90seconds then pull off and make a fuss or later in the day will scream. He does this on both sides. I persist for a few times then give up. The longer I leave it (say three hours) between feeds, the better he feeds. I don’t feel it’s a supply issue as I can see he has a mouth full of milk often when he pulls back. We we’re giving a full breast feed then topping up with 100ml formula before bed and he was gobbling this up. Tonight we’ve given up again and he’s gone to bed with just a short BF inside him. This means he won’t sleep for long as he was previously. He was just screaming whenever we tried to feed though.
I’ve tried some different positions and have had some luck lying side by side rather than cross cradle which is how we’ve usually fed up until now. I couldn’t manage other positions until his tongue tie was divided.
I feel like he’s exhausted so we’ve moved bedtime an hour earlier over the last few days. He still seems overtired tonight so will start even earlier tomorrow. I am so tired. A few weeks ago he would feed well then sleep 6-7 hours which was amazing. It just feels like feeding, sleeping and routine has completely gone out the window though he does nap well during the day and he does go back down fine at night after waking to feed.
He has never been a sicky baby. His growth has been fine, he was very underweight at birth but has gained weight well crossing several centiles. He’s due to be weighed again this week so we can see if his feeding is having an effect. I just really don’t know what to do.
