Pumping outside....

Hey, I am back at work as a biologist and at the end of the month I'll be working on a small boat for a few days. There will likely be little chance for privacy. I currently use a Mendela Freestyle, but I have ordered an Elvie wireless pump to make things even easier and I hope it'll arrive on time. Can anyone share any experiences about pumping outside, or recommend any good outdoor clothes that will make this easier, particularly if the Elvie doesn't arrive on time and I have to use my 'traditional' pump. So far all I can think to do it sit at one end of the boat on my own and do one breast at a time. Any suggests welcomed!

How small is the boat? An open top dinghy, or is there an area inside with a cabin/toilet/galley etc?

Don't you normall pump 1 breast at a time anyway? I'd wrap a towel or muslin cloth around your neck and wear it like a backwards cape for privacy.

The boat is mostly likely be a large RIB, so no wheelhouse of galley. My medela is a double pump so under normal circumstances I would do both.

I’m exclusive pumper, there is a really great Facebook group called Exclusively Pumping U.K. Mums that will be able to give you loads of advice on the best things to do. I had real trouble with the Elvies and leaking. Had to sit entirely, still and upright with a muslin stuffed down my bra to catch the leaks. It’s quite a common complaint so I wouldn’t pin all of your hopes in the Elvie!

I’d also look into freemie cups so you can use the medala hands free! I also pump both sides at the same time, no need to make extra work for yourself!

Could you buy a nursing cover and pump under that?
