Odd breastfeeding behaviour

My DD is 8 weeks old and since her late feed last night has been acting a bit strangely. She simply doesn't want to take a boob into her mouth but will suckle (albeit a bit sulkily) if I use a nipple shield.

Initially I thought it was something I ate. She did the same thing when she was a week old after I had a chinese. The chinese had cashew nuts in and last night I ate 5 cashews to see what happened and I'm getting a very similar response.

But what I'm confused about is if it is the nuts in the milk then why is she happy-ish to suckle with a breast shield. It seems to me that its the nipple rather than the milk she objects to. I've not used any creams or perfumes on my body so that can't be it. But then again I've only ever had t his problem once before when I ate cashew nuts.

There are no nut allergies in either of mine or DH's families and I've eaten other nuts whilst breastfeeding without provoking this reaction. She's not been vomiting or had the runs so I'm doubtful that this is the begining of an allergy, which was my first thought when she started fussing.

Any ideas anyone?

The only thing that I can think of is that perhaps the nuts have altered the taste and smell of your milk and she doesn't like it! Using the nipple shield might be easier as it may be taking some of the smell away.

I would check to see if she has oral thrush .Have a look for white patches in her mouth and on the inside of her lips.Ds2 had this lots and he wouldn't feed as it leaves a funny taste in their mouth.
