Tongue tie?

5 week old baby.
Ff, but now trying to transition to combi.
Low supply - he gets a bit out as I can hear him swallowing initially, but after a few minutes he's angry and wants the bottle.
I think he has tongue tie, they said he did when born but said they wouldn't cut it as it was minor and I planned to formula feed.
Having looked it up, I think it's actually quite moderate a tongue tie.
Could this be stopping him effectively bf-ing?
Thing he, he gets a bit out initially - does this mean his tongue tie isn't a barrier and I just have low supply? Or can tongue tie babies bf a little bit but struggle to get a proper feed out?

Tongue tie makes breast feeding more difficult. Phone the health visitor and ask to urgently referred to the Infant Feeding team. Depending on where you are there can be a wait to have the tongue tie cut. If you can afford it might be worth paying privately to ensure no further issues with breast feeding.

Hi there
My baby boy is 4 weeks and has that same issue suck and swallow then suck no swallow. He has posterior tongue tie and we’re waiting for our appt to have it corrected. I am unsure like you are.... I think the TT is the reason he’s not swallowing because I am able to express from that breast. But I’m also doubting my supply because I can’t seem to satisfy him with my breast or expressed milk and need to give formula once or twice per day

My son (now 2) was badly tongue tied. He could not even stick it out or lift his tongue up as it was 90% stuck. The first night was awful as he just chewed on my nipples (they almost bled) and I did not know why he was crying so bad. Anyway it was 3.30 am when I realised he was starving so I woke hubby up and sent him to Asda to get a cow and gate new starter pack. He gulped a whole bottle down and slept. I've never felt so bad.
However, to cut the story short - the health visitor mentioned which hospital carried out the Tongue tie removal procedure, and we had to fill in a hospital form ourselves and send it to them. We did not need to get referred by the HV or GP.
Our turn came within 2 weeks, and he could finally breastfeed. The procedure was fairly quick and simple. The just snip the skin at the base of the tongue. Baby did cry, but I was told to immediately offer the breast for comfort and it also stopped the bleeding.

I had my baby's tongue tie revised privately as I didn't want to wait. He had a 100% tongue tie, right to the tip of his tongue.
It was a very quick procedure and he only cried long enough to get him latched on, he had a feed and was fine after that. Immediate improvement.
It was £245 which included her travel from the other side of Scotland, breastfeeding consultation/ checking positioning etc and division of tongue tie. I figured buying formula / bottles would be more expensive and I wanted to breastfeed him anyway.

Hi there
Thank you for sharing @Happysong
May I ask did you exclusively breast feed after the procedure or did you continue with some formula?
Xx

@NewMummyJelly Hi, I exclusively breastfed my son for 6 months. I also breastfed him before he had his tongue tie removed, it was incredibly painful at first but we sort of got used to it. But I would give him a cow and gate bottle at night time only.
However, I didn't give him formula after his tongue tie was removed. I feel bad he didn't get to have any colostrum. I wish I had the sense to express it and feed it to him via syringe.
My son is now 2 and is a boob monster. I used to let him fall asleep when on the boob, and now he won't sleep unless he has a nipple in his mouth. Its a complete nightmare and am trying to wean him but no success 😬

@NewMummyJelly try massaging your breasts before feeding baby. And when my baby was tongue tied he sort of turned his body away from me, so he would turn his neck to feed. The lady at the hospital said this was him managing the flow of the milk, because he could not lift his tongue. But once the tongue tie was removed he would feed with his body turned towards me and close by.
Isn't breastfeeding really hard?? Never did I think it would be so difficult.
But don't worry. You'll get there and after the tongue tie removal things will get alot better.
Also, putting breastmilk on your nipples will help sooth them.
