Which electric pump?

I am expressing to try and rest a badly cracked nipple but I only have a wee manual pump. I am finding it very slow to use and it is also irritating my nipple as it only sucks on that part. I am going to invest in an electric and have called my local boots to find out what they have in stock.

They have their own make, the medula mini electric and the avent isis electric.

Any thoughts on which is best?

own make- cheapest- could just batter your boobs and make them sore
medela- imo best all rounder for milk yeild and cost
avent isis- expesive but prob the most effective.

I've got an old one made by Ameda who sell by mail order - its a double pump and works brilliantly - has lasted years also.

Don't know if they're still sold but you can get them on Ebay quite cheaply I think

if you are getting medela go for the "swing" one thats got the two phases. i found the basic electric pump is excruciating. was cheaper but false economy as i found it too painful to use 2x+ daily.

I have tried both the Avent manual and electric pumps, the electric one was by far the best for frequent pumping ( also converts to manual one if no electric). I have had to pump a lot of feeds recently and hired a medela hospital grade one (Symphony I think)from medela.co.uk. It has a "swing" system which gives you a gentle let down suction then a more powerful pumping after. The double system is great and I can express a lot more in a fraction of the time compared to the Avent(good for sore nips!) Although not cheap option it really does work.

If the cheaper Medela swing one is even half as good I would go for it. But a double pump does produce more if using longer term

I've got an Ameda too. It works great.

medela swing is awesome - can get 5/6 fl. oz in 15 mins. defo worth every penny.

I had to use the medela symphony when LO was in hospital. Davidsmom is right. its great - 2 pumps makes things VERY quick. The Medela swing is the "home" single pump version of it and it felt close enough to the symphony. very effective and comfortable. But agree with Davidsmom, about if you are using it often / long term the double pump is a huge advantage. I am thinking of upgrading as its too slow with one at the moment.
