I have a 1 week old baby and initially breast feeding was going well. I'm now struggling getting him to latch on and am sore and tired. He is sick alot after feeding and im not sure how much he is taking. I have decided to change to formula milk, do I stop breast feeding altogether or do i gradually introduce the bottle? How do you choose which formula milk to go for? I have a 2 year old but she was on nutraprem on prescription so didnt have to make these choices. Thanks.

if you are struggling for him to latch on call your midwife out or a breastfeeding advisor, you have probably just been left to get on with it yourself, there is someone on here think its tik-tok who is really good that could help you, i wouldn't just stop the brestfeeding you probably will end up in agony after missing a few feeds, i mean like jordan size! bumping for you

ale - you need help with breastfeeding if this is what you planned to do. The reasons you give for stopping can be fixed with help....obviously, your choice to stop or not, but any midwife should be able to help you latch your baby on so it is not sore, and will be able to help you judge if he is taking enough.

If your baby is producing several soft yellow poos each day, then this is a good sign he's taking what he needs whether or not he is throwing up,

In addition to the midwife, you can call any of the bf helplines 0870 444 8708 is NCT's....I really, really hope you get help. Breastfeeding in the first week or so can be a real challenge and many mothers need support to help it come right.

It's not possible to say whether if you do stop you should just stop completely all in one go - this might make you very uncomfortable. Do call the midwife if she is not expected this morning, and stay in touch here .
