Baby is getting no milk

I’m mixed feeding my DC. We had the specialist BF nurse in yesterday to help with BF as baby was always hungry after feeding for over 40mins. Turns out she isn’t swallowing and therefore not getting any milk. She’s just suckling. I pumped last night at a time I’d usually feed and only got an ounce. I can’t help but feel like it’s my fault for introducing a bottle and therefore reducing my supply. The latch was always awful and I’ve been bleeding from my nipples since the day after she was born. I don’t know if I should just give up now and carry on with formula or keep cracking away with pumping. I just feel guilty that she’s been getting no milk whatsoever. Sad

Hi OP, I’m pretty useless on the advice front but didn’t want to read and run.

I’m 10 weeks in with mix feeding my first baby and I honestly am so shocked at how complicated breastfeeding is compared to what I was expecting. There is so much advice given to pregnant ladies on birth but not much prep for the actual ins and outs of feeding and how to know if it’s going well. If I hadn’t of introduced a bottle or 2 a day I think my sanity would of suffered long ago. Sounds like you’ve had a tough go of it too so I don’t blame you for adding a bottle in.

You’ve spoke to a professional so hopefully they’ve advised you a bit, but there should be no guilt in continuing as you are or stopping BF. You don’t say how old your little one is but even if you’ve only been BF for a few days that’s an achievement in itself. Don’t obsess over what you’ve pumped out, I pump once at the same time every day, some days I get about 10ml and other days nearly 200!

Be kind to yourself 💐

Hi OP. Congratulations on your baby!

Just a couple of questions before I reply properly ... How old is your baby and have you had her checked for tongue tie? Sucking, but not swallowing and very painful nipples would prompt me to want to check if tongue tie were an issue.
