If i'm bf ds1 and have #2 will I have to stop feeding ds1 and will my milk be 'age appropriate' (as it changing to meet needs - sorry dont know how else to explain it) to dc1 or dc2?

ha good question!
at some point during your pg you will start producing colostrum - which ds1 may or may not like! your milk production may slow down or stop, but your ds may persist.
the milk will then be produced for the newborn, but if you continue to feed both then your supply will match need.
hope I have explained that properly

May be having a 'dickhead' moment but how could my supply match both needs?

Would my milk revert to that of newborn needs and ds1 would have to like it or lump it?

Yep, you got it, Newborn's need come first, though if your milk is 'mature' and DC1 is older than 1, the difference isn't as much as you'd think

harpsichordsahoy · 11/11/2007 00:07

yes it becomes newborn milk
which is pretty good stuff
I would really recommend tandem feeding, it really worked for us

hi there's loads of info about tandem nursing on kellymom.com here

As I understand it, most mums produce enough milk for at least two kids in the first place and then it gradually settles down according to the demand - pretty much as harpsichord has said. Not that I've done it myself - yet - we'll have to see if ds2 weans during this pregnancy or not .

spotty I would just trust your instincts and your body to do what is right.

I fed throughout pregnancy then tandem fed with three of mine and it was all fine. In fact it wa great because it really helps with the bonding and sibling rivalry thing.

Your body will make the right milk for the baby and the toddler will just have the odd sip IME.

The only slight drawback for me was that my nipples were a bit tender in pregnancy so toddler feeding was slightly painful.
