Nipple blister

I’m feeding a 6 week old. Breastfeeding was very hard going to start with, but has been getting better and better the last couple of weeks. Today I have an incredibly painful red blister on my right nipple. I’m struggling as my baby mainly feeds from the right and it’s making me wince. I think it might have been caused by baby fussing a lot yesterday causing damage.

Does anyone have any advice? I could pump but I don’t like doing it and find it uncomfortable. Using lasinoh and rubbing my milk in. I’ve taken paracetamol. It’s so hard as ftm and what with the pandemic have never had latch checked properly. Xxx

I'm sorry you've had no replies OP. I've only just seen this post. How is the blister now? Just though I'd ask that before giving advice that may no longer be necessary!

I feel your pain! I had one of these too, and then found out that DD was tounge tied. I'd recommend getting this checked out. Nipple shields and a good nipple cream will help, and a good soak in the shower/ bath x

Thank you both fortunately it’s gone and I’ve had a few days pain free feeding which is bliss. I don’t think he has tongue tie. He has quite a long tongue and I can’t see any evidence of TT underneath. He sticks it out a lot. He is still fussy at the breast at certain times of the day mainly late afternoon/early eve. I think he doesn’t like the slowing of the flow as he starts fine then after a few minutes gets cross and cries. We manage by stopping, switching sides, settling him then starting again but it is a chore and it sometimes upsets me when I feel he’s really hungry and I’m wrestling him. We stopped the bottle he was getting before bed each night but I didn’t find it made any difference. He was very low birth weight with really good weight gain since tho he’s still below the 25th centile. I like him to have a bottle before bed when I feel we’ve exhausted breast feeding. He then feeds at the breast again before he sleeps. Xxx

Ah, don't worry OP. Fussiness at the breast in the evenings and cluster feeding are both completely normal behaviour for a 6 week old baby. They're clever little things and it's their way of making sure they increase and establish your milk supply for the future. Think of it as putting in the time now to get the rewards in a few weeks. The cluster feeding and fussiness usually starts to settle between about 8 and 12 weeks x

@Somethingsnappy aw thank you so much that’s made me feel a lot better. I worry so much that he’s hungry and I’m failing him by not being able to give him the milk he wants. He has fed really nicely this eve after some afternoon fussiness. X x

Hi sorry I know this post is a few years old but currently have a red painful blister from expressing and was wondering if there was any advice on what made the blister go away?
