Callum has been struggling with his weight gain. He was born weighing 4lb 8oz, and is now 5lb 1oz, 6 weeks later. We have been topping up with a feeding tube, and he gains while we top up but not by huge amounts. He hasn't gained anything this week, even with 2x a day topups. He is feeding every 3-4 hours. The SCBU nurse is getting concerned now and has gone back to the hospital to discuss Callum with a doctor. He also has reflux. She said about formula today, which me and DH don't want to do. help

lol, unfortunely my sister is coming to see me on friday and coming to BF clinic with me to have him weighed on friday. I can't see her sitting downstairs the whole morning while I stay in bed feeding....

Tell her to come and lie on the bed with you to keep you company and amuse you with stories.

Both lie in bed and bfeed and chat then - lovely!

sparklygothkat · 21/11/2007 23:59

I think Callum needs some of Lisad's milk, Jasmine is HUGE!! Not sure what Lisad is putting in her breasts but its works.. (not like mine)

is callum on any medication to stop him bringing his milk up?

sparklygothkat · 22/11/2007 10:21

yes, he is on 2 meds, for the reflux, I also keep him upright after feeding, in a hubabub, for half an hour.

what medicines is he on. some on better than others. we found domperidone and omeprazole (losec) to be the best.

nappyaddict · 22/11/2007 10:34

domperidone is sometimes called motilium aswell.

Flamesparrow · 22/11/2007 10:35

No advice, but I love the photo of both babies together!

LadyVictoriaOfCakeThe2nd · 22/11/2007 10:36

ooooh big eyed baby pics in your profile [broody]

sparklygothkat · 22/11/2007 10:38

he is on domperidone and ranitidine.

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 22/11/2007 10:43

i would ask gp about trying the omeprazole if you think he is still having problems with his reflux. its much better than ranitidine.

sparklygothkat · 22/11/2007 16:04

arrrghhh!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so annoyed the SCBU nurse just phoned me to see if we had picked up the formula, and then said that if callum hasn't put on weight in 2 weeks, we have to put him on formula fulltime!!! why aren't they helping me????

I'd phone the ABM again.
