Cooking with Milk

Sorry, wasn't sure whether to put this in Food or here!

I'm currently cooking up loads of stuff to put in the freezer to feed ds2 when he hits 26 weeks. However, one of the recipes I was going to use today has 10 fl oz of milk in it!

Now, whereas I've been happily expressing milk for most recipes as I've gone along, this 10 fl oz isn't going to happen. I just don't have the stocks in the freezer anymore.

So, do I pop out and buy a tin of formula just for cooking with (will then probably end up using it to mix with baby rice as well as I hate expressing) OR do I cook with normal full fat cow's milk. Which is healthier/better for poor wee mite?

From what I know, the reason to use EBM for these things is if you're avoiding giving your child cow's milk yet. But if this isn't an issue, I'd just use cow's milk. (And, of course, if it is an issue, normal formula is still mostly cow's milk, so it doesn't fix the problem.) It's not worth bothering buying formula just for this, it's fine to give milk in food to babies under one, it's just not meant to be a regular beverage.

It's fine to use cows milk - after 6 months it's not "dangerous" for them to have it - it's just that it by itself isn't enough, hence why you should still give bm or formula as their main nutrition

Thank you! Good point about formula being mostly cow's milk anyway...

In the event, I chickened out and used water - this being a "first tastes" type recipe I'm a bit reluctant to introduce a potential allergen so early on. I will use normal cows milk in future cooking after the first couple of weeks of weaning though...
