well i dicovered today that i am chuffin useless at discreet public bfing! need your tips/advice on what to wear!

today we ventured into city centre to register 12 day old dd1, needed to feed her twice and made such a mess of it! when i say discreet i don't mean so no-one knows i'm feeding her, just don't want me boob/belly on show to all

i was wearing a vest top and cardi as i thought i would be able to hoick top up or down and cover dd with cardi while she latched on, but didn't have enough hands and had huge amount of post pregnancy tummy on show when top was up and huge amount of boob on show when it was down!

don't really want to resort to bf tops as they expensive, help!

I found practising latching DD on whilst I sat in front of a mirror at home helped me relax and see how little other people actually see. Agree with PP that Belly bands or a vest are great to cover belly.

My early NAKing whilst trying to use slings and boob tents, made me more stressed and everyone knew what I was trying to do which embrassed me and I struggled to latch baby on under cover, but that is properly just me

but i tend to wear a loose vest top underneath whatever top/jumper i have on - that wasy the top top (iykwim) goes up, the vest pulls down over one boob

and i have a poncho for chilly days out

i got a pack of maternity vests from next that work perfectly - adjustable straps so they can be worn quite loose

I think the vest was a good idea pulled down but I would have brought a large Muslin cloth with me to drape over her

I wear a vest if I know I'm going out in public. If I'm caught out at all I fold a muslin in half and tuck it under my bra offset to the side I feedng, which covers my tummy. I also hold my boob with my other hand which helps conceal it.

Think Hennes tops are good although they don't stock them in every store. Think they are about a tenner a top. I wear mine ALL the time. Well done for bfing in public. Def an art. Also I think it's really important for other people to see that bfing does not restrict your life and that lots of people do it, so it becomes the norm.
