Colic, wind... Gripe Water etc

Hey.

I have a few questions..from a very tired and frustrated Mum!

DS is 4 weeks and suffering terribly with wind/constipation and is quite colicky in the early afternoon then late evening.

I'm advice of HV we moved him to comfort milk a week ago for the reflux he was having when feeding. That has helped that problem however he is still struggling to poop...He goes once a day but its barely a peeble some days.

Most feeds he doesn't bring up any wind despite winding him for up to a hour, and ends up extremely uncomfortable. Pulling legs up, jerking arms around, screwing face up and just not settling. Then the early afternoon rolls round and he will scream for easily 3 hours until suddenly settling down, then repeats this late evening.

He takes hours to settle after night feeds too.

HV has just basically said try a few things and see what works...

He has had dentinox in his milk for about 2 weeks, and I did think it helped to start with but now I'm not sure. I am considering moving him to Colief as I have heard that helps with constipation? I also started him on Gripe Water last night but it didn't help him bring up any wind however it did stop his evening screaming spell and he slept so much better. This morning he was so much more settled so I didn't give him Gripe Water after his feed, and he still seems OK. Is it OK to only give the water when he is distressed after a feed, or do I need to give it every feed? Can Gripe Water ease wind without him physically bringing any up, like can it disolve it in the tummy?

We found that Infacol really helped with wind but we didn’t have colic alongside it.

Thanks, we used it with our first and didn't find it done much but would definitely be willing to try it again if it's going to ease the trapped wind. Poor soul is so uncomfortable.

Babies suffer digestive issues because they have immature digestive tracts, time will fix it. Lots of bicycle legs. I would not give comfort milk as it's sludgier and harder to digest.

Hey OP
Complete shot in the dark but my LO was like this...it ended up being a dairy allergy. She settled right down once I cut dairy from my diet (I was BFing)

My first was on comfort milk for 12 months, we swore by it and the HV recommended it this time.

I just feel like it's a no win situation.

We are completely done in with it. Even our toddler is shattered because of the screaming.
