Milk plebs

Hi, does anyone have experience of milk plebs on the nipple whilst breastfeeding? I'm currently feeding my 4th baby and I have two on one nipple. I've never had them before despite years of feeding! They are very stingy. I've read they're associated with an over supply, but mine have appeared on the breast that has a much lower supply than the other.

I had them & they were fucking murder frankly. If you can bear it, scratch them with your nail (or take a sterile needle to them - general advice is leave that to the professionals) & feed from that side & they should clear.

Thank you! I wonder why they're only appearing on the one side?! Did yours come back again or did they stay away once you'd sorted it? How long did it take for them to dissappear? Thanks for taking the time to reply!

As soon as I’d got the seal off the top they would pop out quite quickly with feeding. They did recur, but for me they were strongly associated with blocked ducts and once mastitis. Now you mention it they were usually on the ‘good’ breast, not the rubbish one.

Thank you @Coldhandscoldheart

@Somethingsnappy milk blend can be associated with blocked ducts. I may be on the "less good" breast if that breast wasn't drained completely and your milk has solidified in your milk ducts / pores on the nipple.

I would suggest hot compress /flannel to the nipple and breast for a few minutes, to open up the nipple pore, and then put baby on to nurse as soon as possible. You can also take a clean wash cloth to see if you can scratch off / loosen the milk bleb's plug on the surface. Be careful if you are going down the route of using the sterile needle since that increases risk of infection.

Sorry @Somethingsnappy if you’re getting any pain or heat to the breast, please get in touch with someone (like your GP) as mastitis can make you quite unwell & shouldn’t be underestimated. Don’t feel you can’t approach them.
