Anyone done WeightWatchers Online while BF?

After finding out you can join WW online while BF, I'm thinking of joining - have done it before pregnancy but wondering how you manage the extra points? If it's 10 extra, does the online calculator allow you to add them in or do you have to just work them out yourself? If you've done it, have you found the weight coming off slowly, too quickly or what? How was your milk supply etc while doing it? Any other advice?

monkey I am doing it online and you get the 10 extra points in your daily allowance I'm only on my first week so can't tell you what the outcome will be

barbamama · 03/11/2007 23:09

I'm doing it non-online on week 3 and with the extra points I did 4.5 lbs the first week and 1.5 the second. That was sticking to the 29 points every day with a day off at the weekends. Was worried about messing up bf but so far haven't noticed any problems with supply. Would be good to hear your experiences too as I don't want to bugger up bf. I think bf is helping me lose weight. Only negative so far is that I have developed thrush which I think migh be because I've stopped eating loads of chocolate - any time I change my diet, antibiotics etc I tend to get it. My friend is mixed feeding and not so worried about bf, she did last week with only 5 extra points and lost 5 lbs!

I didnt realise you could join while breastfeeding. I have been worried about trying to diet while still bf'ing might go look on weightwatchers site now. what are the benefits of doing it online? is it expensive?

peskipixie · 03/11/2007 23:29

you can def do slimming world while bf, i tried it after ds3 and i did lose weight. but i found it hard and i think it did have an effect on milk, ds just seemed grumpier and hungrier than usual. maybe coincidence or i was oversensitive. am v tempted to try again tho, am currently very overweight and really want to try and get rid but dont want to affect feeding ds4. sorry, thats not much use im just pondering

yelnats · 03/11/2007 23:32

Well I should be fine - dd2 is 8 and a half months. I did lose all my baby weight and a bit more when she was first born but have been eating like a pig for the past 8 1/2 months - cos Im feeding the 2 of us you know! . Really need to try and do something. Will look at weightwatchers - not sure I want to pay for 3months though cos if past experience is anything to go by i can never stick toa diet of any kind.

peskipixie · 03/11/2007 23:34

ds is about same age, i am also eating like a pig but lost nothing at all so far. c sec didnt help, was all geared up for excercise then that threw me totally (thats my excuse and im sticking to it). im just hungry all the time when i bf which is why i thought sw would work better last time.

tesco diets also looked interesting but dont know how it works with bf

yelnats · 03/11/2007 23:39

i did slimming world just before i fell pregnant with dd1 and lost about 8lbs in a couple of weeks but it gets pretty boring IME. At least with WW you can eat more or less anything as long as you count it.

yelnats · 03/11/2007 23:47

just checked tesco and they dont allow you to register if you are breastfeeding or pregnant.

I like ww cos you can eat what you like I had a pack of maltesers last night and the 10 extra points really make a difference. The online points tracker is very easy to use as well and has loads of food in it
I am also doing buggy fit once a week so really hoping to shift some blob before xmas Half a stone is my goal but If I could lose more I would ecstatic

monkeybird · 04/11/2007 10:24

what is buggy fit AndieM?

andiemisletoe · 04/11/2007 10:30

it is exercising with your pram here i really like it

monkeybird · 04/11/2007 11:13

looks good unfortunately not in my area. Guess I can try doing the walk to School and nursery with the other two just that little bit faster. No hope for the stomach though - after 3 surgery is gonna be the only option

andie i was meaning to check out buggyfit as well - thanks for reminding me. It is so hard to find exercise you can do while still having to be nearby to the babf for bf - that's my excuse! He is taking ebm now so I thought about joining a gym but I know I will be too knackered in the evening. Gettingout and about during the day with the buggy sounds much better.

I was going to do ww online as I thought it would be easier, but we found a meeting near nursery just after have dropped off ds1 so that was just as easy as I am out in the mornings anyway. We dont often stay for the talk afterwards though as they are a bit "Little Britain" if you know what I mean!!

MarkStretch · 04/11/2007 11:32

I'm doing it online too although not bf (dd is 5). Maybe we could start a thread for everyone doing it online for a bit of moral support? I've tried the ww forums but nothing compares to MN!

vitomum · 04/11/2007 11:41

i was thinking of starting this too. i have done it online before and it is good. i am still bf but i also have a 3 year old so i'm wondering how that's gonna work. i really don't fancy having to make 2 dinners every night. has anyone else managed to do it whilst still feading young kids.

andiemisletoe · 04/11/2007 13:22

I'm doing it whilst feeding my 7 year old and dh and I cook the same for everyone just less fat and more veg etc and a smaller portion for me of course

beowulf · 04/11/2007 20:33

I'm doing WW online while bf, I've done 5 and a bit weeks and have now lost 15lb. Milk supply fine, cos I'm taking in enough calories (10 extra points is a lot) and now losing 2lb per week. The weight came off very fast at first because before I did it I'd been gorging on chocolate and cakes all day. The online calculator takes it all into account.

yelnats · 04/11/2007 21:39

I have a 3yo dd too so I quite often make a meal for dp and I, a meal for my 8 month old and something different for my 3 yo cos she is the fussiest eater in the world! Will def try and find the time to register tomorrow. Not sure about paying for 3 months upfront as Im not too good at sticking to these things.

ProfYaffle · 05/11/2007 08:28

i'm doing WW (just at home, not online) and am bf 8mo dd2. I've lost about 23lbs and have gone from size 18 to size 12.

I'm really, really pleased I did it now, the extra points means it doesn't really feel like dieting. The weight has come off in fits and starts, I'll have a couple of weeks where I lose 3 or 4lbs in a week then will plateau for a week or so.

Absolutely no problems with supply etc, dd2 is a fat little thing!

barbamama · 05/11/2007 19:36

well done you!! that is very encouraging. i had a really stressful day today and was so tempted to stuff my face with chocolate - you've kept me on the straight and narrow!

NellyTheElephant · 05/11/2007 19:54

Good luck! I did WW after DD1 (Joined up when she was nearly a year old, I had stopped BF by then) - absolutely brilliant and lost just over a stone in 6 weeks and kept it off until I was 3 months pg with DD2.

After DD2 I decided to start WW again when she was about 8 weeks old and I was exclusively BF. I didn't go to meetings though, just used all my books etc from before. I tried to stick to 5 points above the standard, although it often crept up to about 8 points over. No problems at all with milk supply. I had 12 pounds to lose and shifted it within 6 weeks. I carried on bf for about 3 months after that and have maintained my weight without any trouble.
