Freezer foods

Hello

Does anyone know any frozen foods that aren't too terribly unhealthy that I could feed my toddler? I'm stuck in a fish fingers, beans and waffles rut. Most days he eats decent home cooked family meals with us but 2-3 times a week we fancy eating something he won't eat so I need options!

I don't fancy paying £3 a pop for a toddler cottage pie so was wondering if it's possible to be a bit more creative and cost effective with freezer foods!

Anyone have any winners they could share?
Thank you Smile

Not freezer food, but dd loves egg fried rice. I use a microwave pack of rice and stick it in a wok for 2 mins with any veg I want to add, then stir through an egg. Only takes 5 mins.

My daughter loves fish cakes! And I try and do mashed potato with it rather than waffles, makes it a bit healthier! X

On the days you do cook something he eats, could you cook a bit more and freeze it?

How about these muffin pizzas?

Sorry, I'm not sure about healthy frozen foods Blush

Can you do some batch cooking and freeze in toddler size portions? We usually do cottage pie, corn beef hash, fish pie, small portions of mash, sausages (frozen in pairs), fish cakes etc. It can all be quickly defrosted and served with veg/beans.

Google the Batch Lady.
I swear by her cottage pie, shepherds pie, bolognese etc.

The Strong Roots frozen veggie things are easy and not very guilt-inducing. The spinach and pumpkin burgers go down especially well here! They aren't cheap but you get plenty of toddler portions per bag.

Asda do a range of kids ready meals which are cheaper than most groceries.asda.com/product/kids-meals/asda-little-kids-creamy-tomato-pasta/910001162265 They’re freezable too. Also in Asda you can get John West kids ready meals and they’re currently on offer.

The mini pizzas from Morrison’s are quite good groceries.morrisons.com/products/morrisons-mini-cheese-ham-pizza-275326011 They can go in the freezer too.

My dc also like falafel.

Thanks everyone for all the ideas. Will investigate them all.

I can't believe I've never thought of batch cooking or cooking extra and freezing some of his regular meals!

That's sleep deprivation for you 👍

I dunno how healthy these are but as part of a balanced diet this is what we do for us/DD from freezer:

  • Veggie burgers
  • Veggie sausages - often make a quick casserole with these too with tinned beans and tomatoes
  • Veggie sausage rolls
  • Veggie fingers
  • Veggie 'chicken' nuggets or goujons, sometimes put these in wraps
  • Potatoey accompaniments: chips, wedges, curly fries, mashed potato, roasties, smiley faces, hash browns
  • Jacket potatoes and add topping
  • Spaghetti or pasta with a pre-made frozen sauce, Birds Eye do some like a veggie bolognaise etc or a frozen stir fry mix with straight to wok noodles or microwave rice
  • Pizza
  • Garlic bread to go with a soup
  • Veg: not that she eats them but just any frozen veg mix. She will usually only eat carrots and corn on the cob though really.
  • Leftovers of any other meal that she will eat that we've frozen

We also have the odd day when DH and I want something not toddler friendly!

I make veggie soups and freeze them in toddler size portions (he especially likes ones with a carrot base). DS will happily have that with a sandwich or some toast soldiers to dip in the soup.
