Hey guys,

My baby is exclusively breastfed. Does this sound like reflux?

Symptoms:
Baby throws up after a feed. Baby threw up most of his feed today.

Baby starts grunting in the middle of a feed approximately 8-10 minutes and needs to be winded. If he has difficulty being winded he starts screaming.

Baby makes constant grunting sounds and sounds like he has mucus in his throat.

The consistency of baby’s saliva thickens after a feed, more like the consistency of mucus.

Baby cries when he needs to poop.

Baby needs to be held up for 20 minutes after a feed and in between feeds otherwise he starts gagging.

Baby grunts constantly every second when laying flat on his back after being winded and held up for 20 minutes after a feed.

Baby get some relief when his head is raised.

Yes it really does. All three of mine have been like that.

We have been there, our daughter had something similar.
-Reflux
-Grunting noise
-Constipation, and crying like crazy when she needs to poop
-Ours went extreme and baby stopped breathing for a minute due to the pain

Solution:
-If breastfeeding: Cut Diary, caffeine, tea and gluten out of your diet. Reflux should disappear within 10 days. If it does not improve, remove soy, corn and processed meats out of diet as well.
-If bottle fed: Move to hypoallergenic formula like Neocate: Reflux should disappear within 1 day. Expect baby to be more gassy for 10 days.
-Give your baby probiotics for at least a month, specially if you or the baby have been on anti-biotics
-Move you and your baby back to normal eating after 2-3 months. Once their tiny digestive system finishes to develop.

Avoid Gaviscon and Omeprazole. We started with this and it made everything worse. We then learned that it fails in over 90% of the cases.
