10 week old weird feedings

My LO is 10 weeks old, was BF up until 6 weeks but had to stop due to supply issues and attachment. So we went to formula. My LB has always thrown up, from birth until now, after every feed, and even hours after a feed. He squirms and grunts, and also his feeding pattern is all over the place. At times he takes 4oz (rarely) and every other time it's 2oz or even 1oz every 4 hours at most. Even with the 2oz bottles he spits up. He's weight gain is all over the place, one week its fine, the next it's not enough then too much. He pees fine, he poos every 3 days at most occasionally 2 days. And it's a darker green and at the end a yellowy color, sometimes with mucous. We are putting thickener in his formula, a bit less then recommended due to him having pains from straining to poo, even though it wasn't hard, more like a clay slightly softened. I am currently giving him probiotics to help strengthen his tummy and gripe water to help with burping. Doctors aren't too concerned, they keep telling me he will grow out of it, but i just know something isnt right, hes meant to be upping his intake, not staying stagnant sometimes even less. I do all the things recommended for a baby with reflux. But still, just eating very little and constantly wriggling like he's uncomfortable. Very lost.

Hang in there! It's really difficult looking after a newborn, let alone one with reflux. I will let others with experience in this area to provide some reflux advice.

Is it possible he has a milk or soya or other allergy? My baby had mucousy poos and still does at 18 weeks. I had help from the GP and a dietician who said that milk/soya allergies are most common. You can talk to your GP about trying a special milk-free formula, although I hear it tastes disgusting so easiest to get the baby onto it ASAP so they learn to tolerate the flavour. The dietician said other allergies are not worth bothering thinking about because they are extremely unlikely. But, the internet, esp. in America, says other allergies are possible, so maybe read the ingredients in the formula you are using for other potential allergens, e.g. fish oil.

In my case, it was not milk or soya. We did dairy/soya free trials and her symptoms got worse. The GP advised to go back to normal and wait as she might grow out of it. In our case, our baby was happy, had no other concerning symptoms like blood in the mucous, and was gaining weight steadily. As a result, we are adopting a "wait and see" approach which will ultimately end with weaning.

If one GP is not sympathetic, maybe see if you can see someone else. Spoke to countless people about my baby's nappy rash, and they did not take me seriously. I was doing hours of nappy free time every day and she still had bad nappy rash, with everyone was saying it would get better, use this cream, etc. This was until I spoke to a new GP who thought outside the box and told me it was most likely linked to the mucousy poos. Eventually the poos became less frequent and the rash went away. Anyway -- sorry to digress, added this in to say that sometimes these things do resolve themselves but definitely don't delay getting a second opinion.

I second what PP said,I thought about allergies as well.
Did you raise this question with GP/HV?If you can, contact them ASAP.
How was your little one while BF?

I'm hoping to get in to see a new GP next week. Fingers crossed they can get me some answers. He was the same BF but had the additional rash all over on top of everything else. I just have a feeling something isn't quite right. It's annoying feeling like I'm not being heard.

This sounds like CMPA or a dairy allergy to me. The rash, the burping, vomiting, mucus in poo’s etc. Does he also fart a lot?
My LO did all of this - he was EBF until 6 months but I only realised he had a dairy intolerance when I tried him with formula and he projectile vomited everywhere.
Definitely speak to your HV about this. There are special formulas babies can have if they can’t tolerate dairy. My LO now has Nannycare goats milk formula. I think a lot of babies who can’t tolerate the ones with dairy are better on this. But definitely speak to your HV/GP before making any changes.
