CMPA formula

So, we’ve decided to give up breastfeeding and switch formula but DC has CMPA and I’m looking around now can you buy it in any super markets?! Only chemists? And online.

We just nipped out to buy some and tesco/sainsburys don’t sell it. Am I missing something or do we just need to order in bulk and set a reminder? Where does everyone buy it from?

Didn’t have to think of this before Hmm

You'd normally get it prescribed as its very expensive. It's likely a chemist would order it in for you

Thanks, I don’t see why joe public should shoulder the cost of me switching though. We’re happy to buy it but I’m panicking a little at the lack of availability.

We’ll just have to stock up.

You could ask a chemist to order it in or buy online

There are different types, depending on severity of allergy. As PP said, they're very expensive so usually prescribed by GP/paeds dietician. You can get certain brands on amazon (e.g. SMA Alfamino) or order from chemist

I'm a few years past this now so a little hazy on the details. So have you been dairy free up until now? How has the CMPA been diagnosed? Is she IGE or non IGE? One is a much worse, more anaphylactic style reaction. We got referred to a paediatric allergy clinic after she broke out in hives after her first bottle of formula at about 12 weeks. I carried on breastfeeding but went dairy free but then after a couple weeks decided to make the switch so got the prescription. We remained under consultant care whilst we worked out way up the milk ladder weaning scheme for CMPA babies from about 6 months. By about 1 she was able to tolerate most things and by 15 months had grown out of it altogether which was so lucky. Many do apparently. You really need to be under a doctor if your child has CMPA. If she's not actually diagnosed then it's possible that she's just got normal dairy Intolerance which is very common in young babies

@Desmondo2016 yes we have been dairy free for a while now so: it’s non IgE (eczema gets worse 2-4 days after digesting, cannot settle to sleep 1-3 days after digesting, snotty and farts ALOT after eating).

Been to the doctors 6 times since he was 4 months old and to be honest they’ve been really bad. On the 6th visit they referred us to a dietitian grr not going to help. Just keep giving steroid creams which help skin for a few days but do nothing to help with the obvious fall out of eating dairy and branded it normal baby behaviour.

Good news is we have BUPA and called them yesterday they’re happy to help moving forward for testing in their allergy/immunology dept. For now, he’s ok with Soy so we’ve got one tub of sma wysoy and aptamil pepti 2 coming Tuesday. Depending on the outcome of BUPA investigation we can take steps in which ever direction we need.

At the moment nothing is certain other than a load of horrible uncomfortable symptoms after eating dairy, poor lad Sad.
