Er, Cry-sis just told me my 3month old baby "shouldn't feed in the night ...

.. then again, I suppose you're demand feeding?", she said in a loaded sort of way.

Just thought it was a tad unrealistic, from an organisation like that especially!

Having a baaaaaaaad day, in case you're wondering.

oh dear

sorry to hear that

you are BF? how often is LO feeding ?

charliegal · 31/10/2007 16:48

bloody hell, my 11 month old feeds in the night, so what?

jabuti · 31/10/2007 16:49

oh wow, so my 3 monht old DD is on the wrong too! someone must tell her she should not feed during the night.

bullocks.

Blandmum · 31/10/2007 16:49

goodness Dd was still haveing a feed at 2 am at 9 months. and she was bottle fed by that stage

ChubbyScotsBurd · 31/10/2007 16:51

Exclusive breastfeeding, every 2-3 hours, less in late evening, more in early hours.

And I'm perfectly happy with this arrangement!

OP posts:
berolina · 31/10/2007 16:53

That's really poor. Night feeding at 3 months is the norm. My ds1 was night feeding into his second year, FWIW.

So sorry you're having a rough day.

TheGrimPruner · 31/10/2007 17:04

Good grief.
I think as a culture we are desperately hung up on 'sleeping through' - I'd expect that sort of comment from my mother but not from a professional organisation.
Have you read 'Understanding your Crying Baby' by Kitzinger, CSB?

VoodooLULUmama · 31/10/2007 17:05

sounds perfectly normal to me

but i imagine it is the crying that is upsetting you?

TotalChaos · 31/10/2007 17:06

. That's surprisingly unhelpful. I always understood that babies may need overnight feeds until they are 6 months AT LEAST.

LoveAngel · 31/10/2007 17:07

What a load of old shite. Who are these woman haters? I was still feeding my 18 mth old in the night. They are only babies for a short time. Raaaaah! Are you knackered and at the end of your tether by any chance? What you need is a break, a long sleep, a hot bath, a glass of wine, a giiggle with girlfriends etc etc...not unhelpful advice like 'no night feeds'!

TotalChaos · 31/10/2007 17:08

Hopefully next time you ring you'll get someone more helpful.

PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs · 31/10/2007 17:15

There's a loony in every bunch.... phone back, ask to speak to the supervisor and complain so they know and a desperate mother doesn't get her next time... at least you're in a palce where you can spot the tripe!

ChubbyScotsBurd · 31/10/2007 17:16

Aaaaaaaah the thing is I DO understand my crying baby, I'm sure I do, I just can't seem to fix it. I don't think maybe Cry-sis is aimed at people who know what the problem is  not that I'm excusing unhelpful advice/info.

LoveAngel, you have hit the nail on the head, I need a BREAK, but as baby requires me not only to feed but also to sleep break looks unlikely!

Anyway, she was only trying to help, but jeez ...

CSB, I've seen your threads, you're having a really tough time. I have a copy of 'When Your Baby Cries' by Deborah Jackson if you'd like it. And a Tri-Cotti sling I'm currently not using (poss worth a try).

I will have to go in a foreseeable number of minutes, but will have another look at your threads and hopefully (though I doubt it, tbh)give some wise advice later. What I can certainly give is sympathy.

LoveAngel · 31/10/2007 17:22

Can you express, even if just for a short while as an 'emergency'? Giving up responsibility for one feed per night makes a huge difference, as does the odd night out for a nice relaxing dinner OR the chance to sit infront of Tv with a glass if wine...it's imperative that you have some help in staying sane when you have a young baby crying it's head off on a regular basis...

I sympathise hugely, btw (bet practically everyone reading your post does). I suppose if I were to say 'it does get better' you would be justififed in slapping me round the face with a wet nappy, eh?

ChubbyScotsBurd · 31/10/2007 17:23

(((((berolina))))) your lovely sympathy is enough, but thank you for your kindness. MN never fails to make me feel better, just being amongst so many people who have been this miserable and worse but have survived.

LoveAngel, I think I may just ask DP to Take Me Out this weekend and send my intrepid mother into the bear pit with DS. She's got the granny-knack, and also bucketloads of patience which I'm feeling really low on right now.

The LO has managed some EBM from a sippy cup, and I could always stoke him up before leaving and go somewhere close just in case ... hmmmmmmm ....

tiktok · 31/10/2007 17:44

CSB....please follow the suggestion of complaining! I know the NCT bf line sometimes f*cks up and ends up making someone feel worse (I have had the odd call myself where I have made a complete pigs ear, too) and we need to know...and so do Cry-sis. If the organisation is worth anything, it will have standards, fgs.

ChubbyScotsBurd · 01/11/2007 07:51

I have emailed them to let them know, glad you lot didn't think I was over-reacting by thinking it was a pretty silly thing to say ...

ChubbyScotsBurd · 02/11/2007 16:35

In case anyone's interested I got a lovely email today apologising profusely and asking for details so they can retrain the adviser in question. Feel bad that I might have got someone in trouble but think it was for the best.

Jacanne · 02/11/2007 16:42

I hope you're having a better day today I don't think you should feel bad because you might have made things better for another woman who phones up for help.

Much better day ... I had a break last night for a couple of hours and LO's been good today. Thank you .

moondog · 02/11/2007 19:50

Glad it's going better and you got an apology.
God,I suffered with a baby who cried for six hours solid every night for 10 weeks. I was nearly sectioned.
Exc. breastfed but read an NCY handbook that suggested a bit of sugared water in a bottle (sugar being a pain reliever). It definitely helped.
