CMPA - suspected but not confirmed

Hello,

When my baby was 4 weeks old, my HV suspected a CMPA. He has always been a bit of an unsettled baby but when he suddenly came out in a pinprick type rash and looked a little flushed, I worried and spoke to my HV.

I am EBFing and she suggested I cut out Dairy to see if he settled a bit. I guess he did in time but now I don't know if he was just getting used to the world and settled down, or if it was actually a CMPA.

LO is now almost 4 months old and after talking to HV again, she suggested gradually trying dairy in my diet again. I've found the DF diet pretty easy but LO is still up a few times a night and I would like to try formula for DH to do the odd night feed to give me a good rest as I have a 20 month olds too and I'm pretty bushed by lunchtime at moment. I have tried everything to express but I have never been able to produce a lot, with either baby. I know there is special CMPA formula but hear it is vile tasting.

I am aware of the milk ladder but I wondered if anyone had any experience of CMPA and wouldn't mind sharing?

We have suspected cmp & soya allergies, from what I have read the best way to test it is with something near the top of the milk ladder like a yoghurt and see if you have a reaction to that - start with one yoghurt, give it 3 days, if there is no reaction have a yoghurt 3 days in a row. If there is no reaction you can reintroduce dairy

My son had CMPA that was diagnosed when he was 12 weeks old. I was unable to breastfeed so I gave him specific formula for the condition but it was hideously expensive (my GP wouldn't give me it on prescription because it was "too expensive"). After he was 6 months old we moved to soya based formula which was brilliant. He loved it and I it worked really well when it came to weaning him.

We were transferred to a dietician at 12 months who told us about the milk ladder but he was basically dairy free until he was 3 years old. The milk ladder took a while to work but we got there in the end. He's 7 now and has no problem with cows milk anymore.
