Looking at these milks people say they are all the same die to regulations but they are so different??!!!
Hipp organic has cream In is that good ?
Kendamil gets good reviews but they don’t do a ready made and I heard ready made is gentler ?
Aptamil do so many but then standard (blue bottle) has got 29% fermented milk-what does that do is it gentler for babies or not ?
I’m confused they are all so different

As you are discovering, there are many different milks out there and most of them claim to be the best one for your baby.

You're right to say that they are regulated, so whilst they're not all the same, they will all provide the nutrition your baby needs.

I think as long as you can get the milk locally (you don't want to have to drive 10 miles in a snowstorm), and it suits your baby then it's a good formula Smile

Is the fermented milk something that helps or not ? I’ve never heard of that before I can’t work out if that would make it better or more likely to cause gas if fermented

Everyone says cow and gate is the same as aptamil but it doesn’t have fermented milk. Maybe as the cheapest cow and gate is just the best !

No idea on the fermented milk I'm sorry but I do know this board has been full of MNers with really gassy babies in the last few months, nearly all of which have been on Aptimil.

If it were my baby, I'd be giving that one a huge swerve.

ShirleyCurly · 19/01/2021 21:52

They are all good enough - it's so regulated. Go for what you can afford and why you can easily buy.

Yes that’s what I was thinking it might cause

This really is the answer OP Smile

Thank you I think I was getting totally confused by all the labels claims and ingredients!

Thank you I think I was getting totally confused by all the labels claims and ingredients.

Perfectly normal. They are designed to bamboozle you into thinking that theirs is best when really no one formula is better than another.

Lots of people seem to to like the Aldi one and my DNs got on very well with Hipp Organic.

boozzysuzziie · 20/01/2021 11:05

I'm titering between Kendamil and Hipp, if anyone could answer a few questions that would be great!
1)Difference between Kendamil and Kendamil Organic?
2)Ditto with Hipp and Hipp Organic
3)What's the biggest difference between Hipp and Kendamil? (If there is one!)
4)Positive and negative experiences from both would be a huge help

JiltedJohnsJulie · 20/01/2021 15:29

boozzy. Those are quite specific questions and I'm not sure you'll get any responses on here.

I'd call one of the BFing Helplines and ask a BFC. Might sound a bit odd but they do have lots of information on formula Smile

Isababybel · 20/01/2021 15:40

I am fairly certain that cow and gate and aptamil are both made in the same factory! My dd was on aptamil and i switched her to C&G literally just to save money, and she took to it no problem. I would say just buy whichever one you like (because they really are pretty much the same!! ) and if your child doesn't get on with it such as it makes them gassy then switch to another one Smile

bloodywhitecat · 20/01/2021 15:44

Aptamil and Cow and Gate (and Aldi Mamia) are all made in the same place they just have slightly different ingredients. I seem to remember that most milks contain fish oils but Kendamil doesn't, but I might be remembering wrong (for I is old and my brain is addled at the moment).

N0ManJan · 20/01/2021 15:47

My theory on this was to start with the cheaper end of the scale and then if my DS didn’t get on with it I could always move up to the pricier brands. DS got diagnosed with CMPA which meant we moved to prescription milk anyway.

Also, you might already know this but just sharing this because I didn’t - you don’t need to change milks at 6 months to give your baby a “follow on milk”. My dietitian said that there’s no difference in it and that formula companies created follow on milks so they could advertise it. Not sure if that was the exact wording she used but just passing on the info

Faster800 · 20/01/2021 15:49

We tried aptamil, Aldi mamia and cow and gate - in my opinion c&g was the nicest most 'milk like' and she seemed to like it best! It's also available eveeeeerywhere and is cheap so a good starting point! She had it consistently from 2 months up to a year

JiltedJohnsJulie · 20/01/2021 16:03

This is true. The NHS only recommend first milk until 12 months then at 12 months full fat cows milk. There is actually some evidence that the extra iron in follow on milks may be harmful.

boozzysuzziie · 22/01/2021 10:13

@JiltedJohnsJulie Thank you! I'll look into it Smile

Parker231 · 22/01/2021 12:58

I was advised to buy the one my local supermarket had the most of. Which is the easiest to get hold of.
