Dear sb34

In archived messages there is a post from you about your son who was being sick all the time, but still gaining weight. We are having the same problem with our 6month old son, despite having taken Gaviscon since 2 weeks old (this only relieves it slightly) and are off to the hospital next week. I wonder if you would be able to tell me what the hospital were able to tell you about your son's symptoms - you'd said you'd only go into details if requested in your post.

thanks, Ellaroo. x

If you CAT Essbee, it might be easier, but lets bump this up anyway.

Ellaroo · 26/10/2004 10:12

Thanks lydialemon - but what does CAT Essbee mean?

At the top of the page is an option called Contact Another Talker (CAT). You basically ask mumsnet to forward a short message to Essbee on your behalf.

thanks for all your info - technical & practical! Hausfrau - that's really interesting as ds is actually very big, but everyone who meets him is appauled by how sick he is. He can keep down solids, but then as soon as he has some milk he brings up the solids & the milk, so I wonder if ds could be lactose intolerant. Does anyone know what kind of formula you can give a lactose intolerant baby? It is worth trying anything, as ds never minded being sick when it was just milk, but now it's solids too he gets very upset when he is sick and also clothes, furniture and carpets are all getting ruined. thanks.

thanks Hausfrau, have just rung Boots and they say they have some lactose-free milk that they think might be able to help him. Fingers crossed!

Ellaroo, where are you?
I have 4 unopened tins of wysoy if you want them

dd decided that she doesn't like it anymore!!

Ellaroo · 27/10/2004 10:14

Oh Essbee, that sounds awful, I'm so glad that he is alright now and the whole thing is a distant memory. Thank you for telling me about it - hearing it has made me feel that I must be even more vigilant about not leaving ds unattened when he is being sick all the time. I have started ds on a lactose free milk now - thanks so much for the offers of Wysoy, but I'd already started him on Enfamil by the time I read your posts and don't really want to chop and change his milk again. I so appreciate your kind offers though. I too am from the paranoid camp and have had one of those Maws breathing monitors for both my children! Once your child reaches 1 and no longer needs formula is there a more tooth-freindly option of lactose free milk that you have changed your children onto (off course, I'm assuming he is lactose intolerant, but the verdict's still out on that one)? Thanks again, Ellaroo x

We started the formula yesterday lunchtime and since about 3pm yesterday he hasn't been sick once - this is the first day since he was born that he hasn't been sick all day, so I am so pleased that we seem to have found out what the problem was (I think, unless this is some freaky coincidence!) - thanks for all your advice! However, I am now feeling a bit stumped. I am not sure what the diet of a lactose-free vegetarian 7 month old should be. I used to be a vegan years ago and so am fairly aware of excluding diets, but since then there has been a lot more negative press about soya and if you exclude this too, I am a bit worried about where he will get calcium from and what I can put into his diet to make it varied and healthy. The fact that glucose is the first ingredient on all the lactose-free milks is also really worrying me, so I feel as though, although it is great to have found out what is wrong with him, I'm really worried about the implications for his health. Help! What do any of you with lactose-free children feed them???
