No wind after an hour of winding, can I lay my baby down to sleep?

I have been winding my ten day old baby for an hour and haven't had any burps yet despite using infacol before each feed for the past two/three days. Can I put my baby to sleep or should I keep trying to wind? She is exhausted and sleeping.

yes, put her to sleep. There isn't always wind.

Ahh, 10 days old, how sweet, congratulations.

Personally, I would put her down to sleep and get some yourself.

In my experience, if there is no wind ater a little while of patting then she quite possibly just doesn't have any. If she does have some and it causes her discomfort then she'll soon start crying again and you can re-try. Also, I often found that putting my DD or DS down meant that the wind 'moved' and when they cried and I picked them up to try again it came out much more easily, iyswim.

Thank you for replying, I didn't think there was anybody out there. I tried winding after one ounce, then after two and after the full three and a half that she took, for an hour but nothing happened. I've been watching her for ten minutes now after laying her down and think it might be getting near to the time that I creep upstairs with the carry cot and get into bed.

I never actually "winded" either of mine - you don't necessarily have to. If she seems really uncomfortable then yes, but if she drops off after a feed I'd just settle her down. Don't waste a single second that you could be asleep too in winding her!

After a day or two of bottle feeding her she had a couple of episodes of projectile vomiting which made me panic about winding etc. but that was before we got the feeding a bit more structured so may have been due to over-feeding etc.
