should I dump my refrozen expressed milk?

Just wondering whether this is a massive no-no... my freezer, containing six weeks' worth of expressed bm, has broken. I did manage to get it to a friend's freezer but it did defrost a little in transit. I was hoping to use this milk in the future (eg for mixing with purees when weaning, and possibly when I go back to work - dd is 4 months old and ebf but happily takes a bottle) but not sure whether I can safely defrost it and use it now. Seems a shame to dump it but I can always build up another stash. This is my first post so thanks for any replies.

I would dump it. You shouldn't refreeze anything really

beautifuldays · 25/10/2007 22:11

yes i'm afraid you have to get rid. not supposed to re-freeze it, sorry

Hmm, you're not supposed to refreeze anything, but if it defrosted "a little" rather than totally thawing, then I might keep it - given that it would still all have been really cold. However, I'd mark it as the stuff that was partially thawed and check it when you thaw it properly. Taste it and compare to fresh bm.

If it was more thawed than not, then prob safer to dump.

Real bugger though. It's so precious, bm...

Thanks all - you have confirmed my suspicion that I should dump - especially as I now have no idea which 2oz bags were partially thawed. Back to the pump it is!
