Do you change baby's nappy in the night?

My 11 week old normally sleeps really well but the last few days has started to wake in the night again! Should I change her nappy and give her a feed or should I just leave her nappy and just give the feed and put her straight back to sleep?

She only has a wet nappy during the night but when she doesn't wake for a feed it's pretty heavy so I'm concerned if I don't change her she might be uncomfortable in a super soaked nappy

Using pampers 12 hour protect

I would always change mine when they wake if they needed it, then a free.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 02/01/2021 06:45

Feed

WouldstrokeTomHardy · 02/01/2021 07:09

She will sleep better if she's comfortable. So yes, change her.

Sway19 · 02/01/2021 07:12

Yes of course you change her

Grooticle · 02/01/2021 07:13

Yes at that age I’d change her, she’ll be more comfortable. If it’s only wet you can do a very quick whip it off, put on the new one in bed without fully waking her - I had a bin just by the bed for the nappies.

ForeverBubblegum · 02/01/2021 07:50

If it feels full I'd change it, but it's really a judgement call not general rule type situation as some babies wet more than others (one DC needed it, one didn't). If it's just wet (not dirty) I change without wiping in the night, so baby doesn't get fully awake.

FippertyGibbett · 02/01/2021 07:53

Yes, change her.

Pipandmum · 02/01/2021 07:55

Yes change. Bit do it quickly and try to disturb as little as possible.

NeurologicallySpeaking · 02/01/2021 08:11

Agree I would change very quickly whenever they wake. Stop changing when they sleep through.

Babybaby432 · 02/01/2021 08:29

At that age yes.

SassyPants87 · 02/01/2021 23:55

Thanks everyone! I do change her at night time but she kicks off massively and it's a nightmare getting her settled again. But good tip on just whipping off the nappy and putting another one. I'lol give that a go tomorrow night and get it all set up in my bedroom

Yeah keep the lights off or as low as you can, I got good at changing nappies entirely by touch in the dark. I also used to sing soft lullabies or just say shh shhh while I did it, then feed, and they would settle back down ok. Good luck!

june2007 · 03/01/2021 11:39

Yes if awake.

chocolatepowder · 03/01/2021 12:29

Yes you change them if they are night feeding. Don't wake to change. My six month old is still feeding at night so needs changing.

chocolatepowder · 03/01/2021 12:30

I also just change and dont wipe for wee at night. Put good barrier cream on before bed. My son is not red at all.

NeuroMama · 04/01/2021 11:01

We use reusable nappies so may be different but I don't change my 12 week old unless he poops, which is still some times but often not. He wakes 3-5 times a night to feed but he hates being changed and it wakes him up so much more. He doesn't have any issues with nappy rash and doesn't seem uncomfortable even in the morning when it is really full.

happymummy12345 · 10/01/2021 21:26

We always changed before his bottle at all times, even during the night

Superscientist · 11/01/2021 14:05

I am in reusables but stopped changing at every feed when she stopped pooing overnight which was at about 2 months over the next month I reduced the number of changes until at 3 months she went overnight. She gets fidgety in the mornings if it's closer to 13h than 12h since her nappy had been changed, as soon as the nappy is off she wees. Once or twice she has done this during the night so I have changed then. Sometimes she goes to sleep before I have chance to put her in night nappy so I change her at the first wake up around 2am otherwise she will leak through.

Babies sleep changes all the time, my daughter wakes between 2 and 5 times a night, I have friends who's babies sleep through most of the time but have weeks where they wake up again. The saying "everything is a phase and will pass in 2 weeks” can also apply to the good guys too!!

Delta1 · 11/01/2021 14:13

If it's very soaked, or if it's a poo yes. Or if they're suffering from any sensitivity at the time. Otherwise no, I didn't used to, as it would wake mine up too much. They're 5 and 6 now, but this I do remember!

OhToBeASeahorse · 11/01/2021 16:42

My DD wakes up every 2 hrs. I only change her if she has done a poo

EgSk · 14/01/2021 13:56

I change my 9 week olds nappy at least once , more if there is poo. He cluster feeds every night until 11pm and then wakes once or twice in the night . He is prone to nappy rashes . His older brother wasn’t prone to nappy rashes and after he stopped pooing at night ( around 2 months old) I stopped changing his nappy .

BertieBotts · 14/01/2021 13:57

No never unless they poo or it leaks. I think I did right at the start when both of them were newborn, but certainly not by 6 weeks or so, it just wakes them up too much. Modern disposable nappies are fine to use overnight.
