Advice regarding possible reflux/ colic

Hi everyone! My newborn baby is 3 weeks old today. The past week she has been very unsettled particularly evening, night time and early morning. Inconsolable crying, red face, painful facial expressions, which seem to be related to her passing wind. When she has passed the wind she is settled again, but then the cycle continues.
She also has regular hiccups and is spitting up her milk after each breastfeed.
GP today has been unhelpful and has advised to contact health visitor. Health visitor was lovely but couldn't specify if it is reflux or any other issue at this time. She has booked baby in for a weight check after christmas and has advised me too call GP again if symptoms continue or get worse. Has anyone else had similar experiences and could it possibly get better soon? Is it likely reflux? She has regular wet and dirty nappies and normal bowel movements so is it unlikely it could be an allergy to dairy?
Any help or advice would be great!

Hi my little one is 3 weeks and we have the same problem.. however I am formula feeding.. so I've chnaged milk 3 times to see if anything chnaged.. which each time it did.. but we did also try a lactose free milk which really improved everything but 3 days later the spit up returned.. the hiccups returned and so we tried a reflux milk which has been a godsend... but this has now confirmed that our little one probably does have a lactose issue or a cows milk issue.. as shes now constipated and the wind has returned.. so we are having issues with treat the lactose issue ot the reflux... doctors and midwifes just palm us onto each other and the HV is no where to be found.. hope u sort ur little one out

rykar your baby might have a problem with Lactose but that would be extremely unusual, not unheard of though.

It's much more likely to be Cow's Milk Protein Allergy] (CMPA)

Have a read of the leaflet and see if your baby's symptoms sound the same Smile

My first child was a bit like this; some things that really helped:

With regard to the wind; knees to the chest with gentle push gets rid of it quickly.

If it happens at every feed; you can try some Infacol before each feed; it clears all the gas bubbles.

When being put down to settle, you can elevate angle of the mattress of Moses basket/crib; so baby is flat; just at an angle. That seemed to help with the reflux.

Week 3-6 was peak crying for us. It was hard! If feeding issues continue push HV for more help. Reflux is treatable colic is not.

Reflux - things to try, carobel, gaviscon, medication

Colic - tiger in tree pose, skin to skin, calming songs, infacol (be warned infacol can make reflux worse!) bicycle legs, tummy massage, swaying

Something that helped us massively was a sling!!

Rykar Dentinox is good to. You can even add it to the bottles so very easy to administer Smile

This is all great advice. We had severe, medicated, reflux and also colic with DD1. Non-medicated reflux with DD2. Upright as much as possible (hence why sling a godsend) and hold your baby as much as possible for comfort. It is hard and can take 2-3 months to ease off.

My husband has a history of intolerances from a child so doctor is sure it is a lactose intolerance if shes following her fathers footsteps. We have spoken to doctors again today and they have given us Gaviscon to use from next week as cant have it before 1month and to see gp in New year to be referred to a paediatrian
