Me and my partner just recently adopted a beautiful baby girl. She's on aptamil because it was the easiest thing to get for her at the time of adoption. But she's experiencing some reflux and sturggling to settle at night. Is this her age perhaps?? Would it be worth switching formulas?? I would ideally want something veggie friendly.

not sure if its veggie friendly but i used cow and gate with my son and didnt have any issues :)

Respectabitch · 21/12/2020 13:28

How old is the baby?

What advice did you get from whoever she was with previously?

Soubriquet · 21/12/2020 13:31

It’s best to keep her on the formula she already uses but if she’s struggling with reflux do see a doctor. They can prescribe medication to help

And congrats on the new arrival

Non-dairy (cow or goat) formula isn't recommended for children under 6 months of age, and not really recommended until a year unless the child has a dairy allergy. So I wouldn't go down a vegetarian alternative like soy formula.

If you want a gentle formula, I would suggest trying a few types. HIPP organic has worked well for us, and they have a reflux version. If your baby is struggling with reflux a lot, I would speak to a doctor and get her assessed, as sometimes young ones need a bit of help medically, before they grow out of it. Mine did around 6 months.

Definitely agree with the poster above though that said to try to feed her what her last placement was feeding her! Sudden changes in diet and household could be a lot for a young one.

That’s interesting

I’d have thought you’d have been strongly advised to keep her on what she was on before, rather than what was easiest to get...

SimonJT · 21/12/2020 13:34

SMA comfort is vegetarian

eurochick · 21/12/2020 13:35

@Hawse I think you are mixing up vegetarian and vegan.

Changing brands might help but it might also give her an upset stomach. If it's really bad the GP might be able to help with infant gaviscon or similar.

Melismazing · 22/12/2020 12:03

For everyone asking we adopted from birth so there was no previous formula we were told to 'stick to'.

@Melismazing Kendamil is amazing.

Hard to get hold of in shops but you can buy it through thier website or they sell on Amazon.

SpudulikaSlob · 22/12/2020 14:19

I saw a recommendation for Sainsbury's own on here. It was lovely.

SpudulikaSlob · 22/12/2020 14:20

I mean baby really enjoyed it. I do not taste milk powder Xmas Grin

WankPuffins · 22/12/2020 14:20

Sorry - posted too soon. Kendamil is vegetarian. There's no crap in it, no palm oil. I didn't realise until I read up on palm oil and fish oil that it can exacerbate reflux. My baby suffered terribly abs was on gaviscon in her Hipp organic. Changed to kendamil and we were able to ditch the gaviscon.

NoIdea1234 · 22/12/2020 14:27

Definitely try Kendamil.

WankPuffins · 22/12/2020 14:32

@SpudulikaSlob the Sainsbury's milk used to be made by Kendamil. It's not anymore though.

WankPuffins · 22/12/2020 14:33

I don't work for them Blush I'm just really bloody greatful I found them. I

drspouse · 22/12/2020 14:35

You do need to make sure the formula has enough essential oils though. It used to be that the vegetarian ones didn't have this.

MeringueCloud · 22/12/2020 14:38

Congratulations. Well, she is a very young baby and they don't tend to be particularly settled at night. But it would be a good idea to,speak to your health visitor or GP to see what they think and ask if they can prescribe Gaviscon or similar ( it's a powder you mix in with the milk).

MeringueCloud · 22/12/2020 14:39

Are you doing foster to adopt?

Congratulations hun! Kendamil is veggie friendly and palm oil free! @WankPuffins I 100% understand where you're coming from, I'm soo grateful I found the brand cause the formula makes my little one so happy when she sees a bottle.
