Tongue tie division

How long did you wait for a tongue tie division for your newborn?

In our area they are done within 2 weeks of the referral. My dd was referred just before Xmas so we had to wait just under 3 weeks.

God I don't think I can wait that long. Have contacted a couple of private places too but it's limited where I live. Will phone gp on Monday

I don't know if it differs around nhs trusts but usually a gp can't refer for a tongue tie division.

twinklespells · 12/12/2020 15:28

Too long. We went private when she was eight days old and feel lucky to have been able to do so. She lost 10% body weight by day 3 and whilst she wasn't gaining any weight she still wasn't bad enough to even refer...they wanted her to lose more weight first! She was down to 6lbs 6oz and not gaining anything.

The well known TT person privately here was fully booked for ages, but she gave me details of someone else locally who could help. If you've got the funds it could be worth asking. I'm in east anglia if you happen to be nearby.

Thanks for you, it's so horrible. I found it emotionally crippling seeing my DD trying so hard to feed then being so distraught that she couldn't. She's five months now and flourishing, but it still haunts me. The hospital told me she was just lazy Xmas Hmm

My mw told me to contact gp so must be different here. X

@twinklespells ds is gaining weight well but is swallowing so much air that he's gassy & refluxy. He can't sleep lying flat because of it so you can imagine how exhausted I am.
He wants to feed constantly

We can afford private but in Scotland there's a huge lack of private practitioners. I've contacted 2. One is on holiday until the end of the month and the other hasn't responded yet.

He can't seem to create a proper seal around my nipple as his tongue is so restricted

We waited a week. This was pre covid in January. When I told a friend she told me that the only place she could find to have it done was at a private dentist

CalmConfident · 12/12/2020 16:17

Do it as soon as possible, maybe look further afield. We travelled 3 hours to get it done privately for DS1 as less practitioners bsck then (DS now 14!)

CalmConfident · 12/12/2020 16:19

Found nipple shields and infacol helped with latch and wind whilst we got organised.

winterbabythistime · 12/12/2020 16:39

There only seems to be 2 recommended practitioners within 100 miles according to the ATP website.
One got back to me so just waiting for her availability. Hopefully it's really soon.

About 8 painful weeks. At least 3 people in hospital said refer but nobody did. Crying at the secretary didn't help either. I nearly gave up bf because of it.

Rhayader · 12/12/2020 21:34

Ive had three tt kids and waited a different amount of time with each because it was more or less severe. Went private with the first two but the third one was latching ok just not gaining weight, the first two wouldn’t latch without shields.
