Lactose intolerant, CMPA?

Hi all,

Just want to know if anyone's baby has been tested for the above? Are there any tests apart from trialling different formulas or cutting out dairy from diet? My LO is 3 months old and after her jabs which was on the 11TH November , around a week later, she started to get red patches that look like eczema on her chin and a small patch on her chest, her bum need where she poos is quite red and sometimes looks a bit raw. Tonight, her poo that went up her back (goes up her back fairly frequently), seemed to have irritated the skin on her back and there were bumps on the skin, reflux, sneezes, frequent hiccups, occasionally coughs, and poos are mucousy and slightly green.

She had mucousy poo pre jabs anyways and generally fairly irritable, sneezy, hiccups and we suspected lactose intolerance or allergy.. but now all the above are starting to come out fairly recently.

I'm really stuck because I don't know whether all this is normal or not. My HV just tells me it's fine which makes me feel I'm slightly crazy and finally we have a doctor who prescribed us hypoallergenic formula.. but they don't really know what's what either. They even asked whether I think it's an intolerance.

I'm at a lost and wondered if tests are available. I don't want to be palmed off so wanted to know what other people's experiences are , please.

From what I know, if it was an allergy, it's either Ige or non-Ige in which the former could come up as positive if tested and non-Ige would not show up as positive but only really know from eliminating dairy.. are these blood tests?

With lactose intolerant, can babies get tested?

Would really appreciate anyone's experiences.

I'd ask to be referred to a paediatrician dietician. GPs and HVs are often quick to deem things "normal".

How are you feeding now? If you are BFing I'd cut out all dairy, absolutely everything, although I know how daunting that can be.

If you are FF, then yes try the formula.

And yes, it is really just a case of elimination really. Although I've got CMPA and it sounds as though your DD could have too.

This leaflet from Allergy UK might be useful and have you read the Nice Guidelines?

Thanks @LuchaGarcia

Hi @JiltedJohnsJulie

Sorry to hear you have a dairy allergy. There's so much out there that has dairy it's crazy. We do mixed feeding and I have cut out dairy. Thanks for the links! I've read the allergy one previously but have not come across the NICE guidelines article it's very useful as I know there's a lot of obvious dairy ingredients!
