SMA or C & G ?? One is "probiotic", the other not!

We started out on Aptamil as I was unable to breastfeed and Aptamil wasn't satisfying my little boy. SMA Gold was recommended as more satisfying and he's happy on this.

However, I'm a bit racked with guilt that it's practically the only mainstream brand with no probiotic in it and I wonder if I ought to change, or whether it's just not worth it.

I am loathed to change formula again but does anyone out there think it really makes a difference? It seems to be stamped on everything we but these days and I just don't know whether I should give C&G a go as I see theirs now has added probitic

Thanks

If he's happy, I'd not bother making the switch. Nobody knows really what these more modern additives do and some countries haven't approved them for use - see here

Puttanesca, I don't use formula but I do notice that a lot of people who change to these probiotic ones seem to end up with grumpy, farty babies. And who needs one of those when you have a husband?

Puttanesca, Nutricia is the parent company of Aptamil, the same company mentioned in this article which Hunker linked.

here is another article abotu the smae thing. it says further down that the company said it was extensively tested in 15 clinical trials. the problem with formula companies is that they do not allow independent scientific review of their clinical trials so no one knows enough about what they are marketing except them.

for you it simply means that if you have found a product that makes your baby content, stick with it.

Puttanesca - it's prebiotics, not probiotics, that are in some brands of infant formula, but probiotics are being tested as we speak for mainstream formulas, and it's typical of the poor level of information that's circulated that we get these two novel ingredients mixed up.

It is perfectly ok to ignore all the hype about extra this and extra that, and stick to something that's been around for longer.

Having said that, if you want to go back to breastfeeding, then this might be possible....ask for more details if you want them
