Stopping breastfeeding

DD (2) has stopped breastfeeding this week and now I just feel weird, for want of a better word. I can't really explain what it is that I'm feeling, almost like I have a tingly, jumpy feeling inside my body and limbs? Also feeling like I could cry or punch something today at the drop of a hat.

I guess what I'm wondering is did anyone else experience weird feelings when they stopped feeding and how long did it take to feel normal again? I've been feeding now for almost 3.5 years (2 children) so I don't know if it will have more of an effect on my hormones or if it's just because my hormones are a riot at the best of times Confused

Anything I can do to help my hormones get back to normal or do I just need to wait it out? Also worrying I'll get mastitis as she dropped the last 2 feeds she was having quite suddenly and I've had mastitis a few times before so hoping that doesn't happen.

I think what you are experiencing is pretty normal but if you're worried about mastitis you could always call one of the BFing Helplines and talk it through with a BFC Thanks

I wrote a similar post recently.

I stopped feeding after about 19 Months and I honestly wanted to kill most people... It passed after a couple of weeks and managed not to commit murder!

Thank you, I might do that if I notice any discomfort again.

I'm relieved to hear it passed quite quickly! I just feel like my hormones are crazy today. I also just feel quite restless as well, almost the way you feel when you're really tired.

Following with interest although I can't offer any great insight. My daughter stopped breastfeeding of her own accord quite abruptly about a month ago at 17 months. It's hard to know whether my low mood and snappiness are related to that or just because I'm knackered/tired of lockdown etc etc.

Oh and also my daughter was still having 3 feeds when she stopped so I hand expressed quite a lot for the first few days then gradually weaned myself off doing that. I was partly doing it to keep up supply because everything I read suggested it was a nursing strike rather than true self weaning but she never came back to it. I haven't noticed too many lumps or milk build-up so hopefully the same will be true for you.
