Mastitis and reflux

Ok so mastitis is just something i have to get through. Have the antibiotics and dealing with the flu like symptons, teariness, tiredness etc. Been there before and will get through it again.

Question - not loving the idea that she is getting some of these antibotics, i hate the things, anthing I can do to counteract this?

And this reflux thing. What a bloody pain in the arse. If I'm not covered in my own surplus milk from leaking nipples (trying not to wear a bra at nigh due to mastitis), I'm covered in sick, as is DD3 and all bedding, sheepskins etc etc. Have so much washing to do, muslins never quite in right place are they!

Question - Is there any tips on helping them to not throw up?
Any foods I should eat more or less of?
Any tips at all really on getting through this yucky stage (tell me it's just a stage, purleeeeeeeease!)

Yeah am keeping... her (! ) upright but she still pukes, usually down my cleavage which is nice!

And funny you should mention the towel thing, switched to towels last night. Oh the washing pile looks wonderful, thank God for tumble driers!

Breastfeeding at night is supposed to be so lovely but when you have to sit up and do it and then hold her upright for 20 mins after at 3.30 and she still pukes over your duvet and mattress, while your DP snores like a cow in labour next to you, and you have mastitis and feel like a pile of cow shit it's not such a wonderful experience at all really!

Thomcat - it's just a stage.

My fist baby lived on mastitis antibiotics for the first two years!!!! He seems fine(ish) at 5!

With my second baby I couldn't bear to do it all again especially as I got mastitis in other breast while taking drugs for first breast!. I tried a course of acupuncture - on the basis that it's all about flow and so's mastitis (imo). It really, really helped. I had an experienced Chinese female doctor. I had about 9 sessions all up. I'm not sure what exactly it was that helped - maybe it was the needles, maybe the way she massaged (and showed me how to) my breast, or maybe it was just the "me" time I desperately needed. I have only resorted to one course of antibiotics since the acupuncture - and baby is now nearly 9 months - it's a miracle.

I have noticed with this baby that each mastitis bout has coincided with an extra stressful period and I really think it's connected - and of course is a vicious cycle because the mastitis makes you tired and stressed which means you are at more risk. Take advantage of any offers of help from family or friends to give you a rest.

In an attempt to stop mastitis I now never wear a bra. This time I bought a cover sheet ("hippychick") which has been absolutely wonderful for leaking - I can fold it over in the night and just need to wash one cover sheet in the morning. It's comfortable to sleep on and saves on washing the whole bed and ruining the mattress. (like last time).

This baby was also a chucker upper - sorry no help on that one - except they do grow out of it fairly quickly!

Yes, DP's snoring while you are suffering is the absolute worst - you should always accidently and surreptiously nudge him .

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 19/10/2007 11:57

Get her to chuck up over him TC.

Seriously though I used to look like some mad OCD sufferer. I'd feed dd and both us and everything within a 10 foot radius was covered in towels. Is she gaining though and happy enough?

that should say cant

Thomcat · 19/10/2007 14:29

Thanks girls

Like the acupuncture tip, might try that, bloody hate antibiotics. Think I'm also trying to do too much so might be stress that is bringing it on, you never realise you are stressed till something like this happens aye.
Also will google this hippy chick thing, sounds live a life saver as far as surplus washing is concerned.

BOT - sozza about today, had bought mags too and was looking forward to cream on my hot choc, let me know when you are next around.

Ohhh meant to ask, do you think cranial osteopath will help with reflux?

OP posts:
poppynic · 19/10/2007 14:47

Lots of people have recommended cranial osteopathy, but then others don't, my babe's started to improve just as I was about to give it a go - so can't say in my case. I did find that the chucking up tended to decrease when I stopped trying to burp her so enthusiastically - poor girl

Oh, I eventually got 2 hippychick sheets - one to wash and one to wear.

Thomcat · 19/10/2007 16:01

LOL! Yeah I figured that burping a baby with reflux wouldn't be a good idea.

Thanks for your posts poppynic off to buy a hippy thingy now
