Ready to drink baby milk

Hi, has anyone tried Cow and Gate starter packs of 70ml baby milk bottles, with teats? It sounds such a good idea, especially for night feeds for the first few weeks. Is there a downside?

I used them the first week or two as I was breastfeeding and DS needed a top up of formula. Then moved on to 100% formula by the time he was 6 weeks old as my milk never came in.

The starter packs are expensive and quite a lot might be wasted in the early days, and don't underestimate how quickly baby's appetite will increase and they'll want more than 70ml per feed!

Cost is the only down side as far as I can see. An alternative is the ready made milk, so have already steralised bottles nearby and a bottle of the ready milk, just open, pour and feed (if baby will take room temp milk, ours did)

You'll then have to put what you didn't pour out the in the fridge, it will keep for 24 hours in the fridge. just a way of reducing the cost slightly. I'm sure you have to discard what you poured into the baby bottle within the hour though, ie, the stuff that's been in the babies mouth.

Prep machines are handy for making up a quick feed in the night (although not everyone likes the thought of them)

They are very expensive and not very environmentally friendly.

We used the big bottles of premade formula for night feeds with dc1. That had to stay in the fridge, so obviously had to be heated up.

If we ever have another baby who can't be breast fed, I think I'd buy a perfect prep machine and keep it in my bedroom with a supply of sterile bottles.

We didn't use the little bottles as dd was tube fed at the beginning, so we just poured milk from those premade mini bottles, before she came home. But I saw other babies in NICU having them. The hospital seemed to like using them.

Thanks, everyone.

Downside is cost as others have said. We used only ready made milk like a PP but didn’t heat them - baby took them straight from the bottle or fridge no problems.

We have used them and we’re given to us in hospital after two days of baby not latching. They have been a godsend these early days and completely worth the money.

None of my three could get to grip with the teats that come with them.
