Signs of a formula milk allergy

Hello
I'm trying to work out if my newborn has a milk allergy - she's almost 5 weeks and has the following symptoms:

constant wriggling
blocked nose
looks like she strains when pooping / goes red
short shallow breaths
red blotchy rash on her face and a little on her stomach

Been a few days of the rash now - I thought it would go down as I saw it with my first DS but it seems to be worse - going to call the doctors in the morning but wanted to see if anyone has had similar experiences

She just seems really agitated generally, not a calm baby. She's feeding every 2 hours and eating well - should I change formula?

Feel like the list of issues could affect any newborn really and on their own sound usual - thoughts appreciated

thanks

Reading your thread and my baby is going through the same thing.
My journey has been started on hipp from birth, very windy and unsettled baby. Used at the time cheap Asda standard neck bottles.
Then advised by hv to try comfort milk so tried this with mam bottles. Baby been on this for 3+ weeks now.
Took baby to docs as wind horrendous and baby unsettled 90% of the time and gp prescribed gaviscon. I didn’t pick this up as from my first born I remember being given this and her being constipated so did not try this.
Went to see a paediatrician at my local hospital and they prescribed omeprazole. Had been given him this for just under a week and saw no difference. It was painful giving him this (liquid form ) and so after discussion with hv stopped giving him this.
Hv gave me prescription (after discussion with gp) fir aptimil Pepti 1. This will be day 2 on it.

Symptoms my son has is excessive wind where he is raising legs, red in face, pumping excessively, can feel bubbles in side , groaning and grunting (worse at 3am till 7am/ lies in crib groaning and writhing around), and classic colic where he is unsettled between 6.30pm ish till 12am. He also has congestion to his nose which initially I thought he caught a cold but has not gone away and that was 3 weeks ago

My son is currently 7 week

It sounds like an allergy/intolerance I would say esp with the rash so your 100% right to see gp.

One full day/night on aptimil pepti hasn’t been successful. Baby extremely unsettled last night and wanted to be held in arms. As soon as I popped him down he would squirm, make machine gun noises and would not go to sleep.

You need to give it time. You can’t say it hasn’t been successful after ONE day & night!

Your right felicitypike. I will give it time- I’m hoping it was just a bad night

@Robison87 try giving it at least a week on each new regime - it won't show immediate results at all.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but most of what you describe is entirely normal newborn behaviour. Babies have very underdeveloped digestive systems and the groaning and grunting, farting and colic symptoms don't necessarily suggest any medical issue at all - it's just something they grow out of. I'd be wary of changing formula too often and stick to one for a while before deciding if it's helping or not. But definitely get the rash checked out by the GP!

Thanks bluebearss, I also thought this and know that eventually it will pass. I have a 3 year old so you would think I would of been able to remember this period but I can’t :).

We had this and when we walked into the doctor's office. The doctor saw my son's blotchy face and immediately said milk allergy. Also, my son's poos were like thick runny mud. On lactose free diet and all is great!

@Robison87 I found mine got better at about 10-12 weeks so hopefully not long to go for your LO!
