Breastfeeding and thrush help

I’ve been breastfeeding my baby for 6 weeks now and he has been great with it and gaining weight but I’ve personally found it quite tricky. I’ve been in quite a bit pain, at times they are so full, ache and leak, I’ve had mastitis and now I’ve got thrush. Could have caught it from ds but I’ve also been on antibiotics since getting home so could be cause of that. My nipples feel like they are stinging and my boobs are tender. My armpit is now also sore, it feels so bruised and has a tiny little pee size lump. I know the aching and fullness is probably quite common from time to time but I’m starting to struggle with it, I’ve had infections in stitches from birth too and just really want to feel better so I can do my best for ds. What do people think stick it out for a bit longer or introduce some bottles?

However my main concern is that ds isn’t in any pain from the thrush? He seemed totally fine then I started to give him the oral gel and he was wanting fed loads and if he wasn’t being fed he was crying/screaming. It’s horrible and so out or character. We are still getting dirty nappies, he had a bit of a ‘explosion’ yesterday lunch time and not been for a number two since though. Any advice tips welcome!

No real advice - just solidarity with how tough breastfeeding can be! I introduced a bottle and expressed a feed to give my nipples a break? Also if your boobs feel super sore and full, could you express a little just to take the edge off?

There is very useful advise on a website called breast feeding network entitled "breastfeeding and thrush". It sounds like the thrush could be in your milk ducts. If so, it won't harm your baby, but it probably will not go away without a course of Fluconazole tablets. Ask your HV to refer you to a specialist breastfeeding service. Or try and find a BabyCafe or lactation consultant near you.
