Not sure what has happened? dd has always gained weight really well & didnt even lose weight in the 1st few weeks after she was born.
Since she was weighed 2 weeks ago she's lost 1oz, i know its not alot & the hv said not to worry but surely its not normal? dh doesn't understand either, thinks i'm worrying over nothing. dd has been sick a fair bit after eating but doesn't seem bothered by it at all. Could it be that i'm not eating enough calories- i have been trying to cut back on fattier foods in that last few weeks...

Your diet will have had no effect on your baby's weight gain or breastmilk intake or the quality of your milk, gardenshrub.

Listen to the hv and your dh - an ounce is easily accounted for in operator error, in dodgy scales or mistranslation from metric to imperial.

And even if your baby has really lost an ounce, it doesn't matter a bit in a healthy, thriving 19 week old

hi garden,

ive been reading a lot about the relation between what we eat and breastfeeding. basically your baby will never suffer from calories and nutrients, unless you are eating are really really poor diet. but your body will suffer. whatever extra you need for your milk and its not there, your body will get it from the resources for yourself. does it make sense?

im no expert here but an ounce sounds harmless to me. i wouldnt worry if i were you.

thanks for the reassurance, not worrying about it today- think i just paniced a bit because i wasn't expecting it!

interesting what you've both said re food intake not effecting quality of milk, dd has a bottle of ebm eveyday so dh can do a feed & it always seems to me that if i've eaten something particularly caloric (double chocolate ice cream sundae- yum!) then my milk looks noticably thicker & creamier???

It's either coincidence or your imagination, garden, truly!

Amounts of fat in the milk are unaffected by diet.

kelly mom gives a good explanation of why.

Fat content does vary throughout the day, which is why I say it could be pure coincidence that sometimes you see it is different.

The type of fat can change with diet, but this would not make the difference in any way visible to you.

But carry on with the sundaes!

thanks tiktok have read kellymom, it does explain well. thinking back, it could have been that on the days it looked creamier i pumped in the evenings instead of 1st thing in the morning when milk seems more watery. anyway i shan't concern myself with calorie intake anymore!!

thats good that you are not worried anymore garden. i can panic quite easily on issues regarding my DD.

my only piece of advice is do worry about your intake of nutrients, because that makes a huge difference on your own health!
