Hello. My DS is just over 7 weeks old and i not sure how much formula he should be taking. at the moment he is having 5oz but seems hungry afterwards. should i give him more? he has never stopped feeding because he is full either from a bottle or when he is breast feeding. is this normal? has anyone else had this 'problem'. he is now 8lb11oz and was 7lb1oz when he was born

thank you for any input!

hiya hun, i would go on his appetite more than what it says on the tin. My little one is breast fed all day but i give him a bottle of formula before bed. he has 9 oz and is 17 weeks old but was on about 7-8 when he was 7 weeks. they dont seem to understand when they are full - my little one would feed all day given the chance i am sure. i would go up an ounce or two if he still seems hungry. xxx

I was feeding my 11 week old approx 5oz every three hours. She always began refusing the feed after about 1/2 to 2/3 complete. She's about 10lb in weight now and was 6lb 11oz at birth.Have now moved her onto 6oz feeds every four hours and she is much more happy and satisfied with that. Don't believe size and weight of your baby overly matter. They are all unique and will find their own way when feeding.

Have you tried him with a dummy? Babies who drink from a bottle tend to drink more quickly than breast-fed babies because the milk flows more easily and so don't get as much time sucking. It may be that it's the sucking that he needs rather than more milk, so might be worth trying a dummy and if this doesn't help increase the amount of milk.

i agree with daisy. even when i bf my DD sometimes she is sucking away on my breast but not because she is hungry, only for comfort. i guessed that much once she is starting throwing up! when that happens, i give her a dummy and in few minutes she falls asleep.

and they say you cant overfeed with bf... someone must tell that to my DD.
