Am I not producing enough milk?

Hi there, apologies for long post!

my DS is 4 months old and what my mum describes as 'fussy'. He's EBF but I have been giving him a 2/3oz of ready mixed formula every 5/6 days to make sure he'll take a bottle (2nd child and cannot be arsed with pumping this time around). Earlier on he'd fed from both sides but was still pulling off and distressed. I gave him 5oz formula which he chugged down on the smallest size teat and cried every time I pulled the bottle away and seemed to want more once it was gone (and then soon forgot about it). Hes been pretty contented all afternoon and had a good nap for once. So all this time he's been whinging and fussy has he just not had enough to eat? I feed him on demand and this can be 2 hourly in the day. He used to sleep through 8-6 every night without feeding but has started waking up more. I'm keen to keep breastfeeding going as I enjoy it and fed my first until she was 2. Can I produce more milk to make sure he's satisfied without getting into the top up trap?

At this age there are all sorts of things going on. There is a sleep regression and also babies kind of wake up a lot more and get bored when feeding.
How is he holding on the centiles? Weight is the first thing I would look at in this scenario, also nappies and output.
You might need to feed more often for a while. In just a few weeks you will begin weaning onto solids and that takes a lot of pressure off exclusive breastfeeding.
Having said all that, at around this age I moved to mixed feeding with my diary as she just fed for 2 mins and then pulled off as she wanted to look around and I lost patience with the whole thing. By 7 months I had stopped breastfeeding all together.

Thanks for replying so quickly

I don't know about weight as there's no weigh in clinics open at the moment. I could contact my health visitor I think they can drop off scales if there's any concern. He was between centiles at 2 weeks and nudged nearer the next one up at 8 weeks. He's not rake thin but also not particularly chubby. He's really long and into 6-9m vests and sleepsuits already.

I think taking some pressure off would be good as his big sister is quite demanding too. Perhaps I could try and replace one feed and see how he goes

I would definitely get him weighed as thats only way to tell if he is getting enough milk.

I'm shocked you haven't had him weighed since he was 2 months old, although our weigh in clinics aren't open, our HV will come ourt, or we used to just jump on the scales without then with dd to get an idea of her weight
