When does this start. I can't imagine ds not wanting a feed during the night.

DS did about 12 months I think.

My ds2 is almomst 9 months and doesn't sleep through, still up 4 or 5 times a night feeding.

terramum · 05/10/2007 15:14

It's kind of like asking how long is a piece of string . Every baby is different. My DS slept for 7 hours a night from about 8 weeks on & off & more consistently from around 9 months...but has now started waking once every night for the past 6 months (he is 38 months). A friends DS didn't start sleeping very well until he was 3.

DD1, 10 months but she had periods of feeding every 2 hours at night. Once she weaned fully (14 months) she started waking up again, prob for the cuddles she'd stopped getting with the end of bf. But then she still sleeps badly aged 5, so it may just be personality.

fruitymum · 06/10/2007 13:11

DD has slept though most nights unless unwell since 6 months, self weaned from BF at 9/10 months.Good luck the patience is worth it!

glaskham · 06/10/2007 13:19

my dd (baby number 2) went from 7-7 from 12 weeks but she was in her own room then....ds (no 1) was 10mths when he went into his own room and slept through from night 1......for me it was when they realsied you weren't there for that feed!!

so when you feel comfortable enough to put you LO into their own room then it will probably stop then!! all the best!!xxx

Don't mean to hijack the thread but I have a related question. My dd is only 5 weeks old but the last few days her first nighttime feed has been really small ie 5 mins (she wakes twice during the night). I'm wondering if this means she will drop this feed at some point soon. She feeds approx 3-hourly around the clock which is pretty tough but I daresay normal for such a young baby.

Do babies typically just drop a feed by themselves or do the feeds get smaller and then stop? I'm guessing this varies a lot but I'd appreciate your experiences. Thanks.

paolosgirl · 07/10/2007 11:32

DS1 - about 8-10 mths, but even then...

DD - from 6 weeks

DS2 - 6 mths, and still waking once

wolfear · 07/10/2007 13:35

Hi Naturelover

My ds was feeding twice a night and dropped a feed at about 8 weeks, now only feeding once a night. He's now 11 weeks.

when they're ready!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lou031205 · 12/10/2007 08:31

First one born on due date. Has never slept through & still wakes for milk, although stopped BF at seven months. Now 22 months and still wakes every night.

Second born at 36 weeks. Now 8.5 weeks (so 4.5 weeks corrected) and has been sleeping from 11pm-9am for nearly 2 weeks.

They are all different.

Trinaj · 12/10/2007 21:28

I hate to throw a spanner in the works - dd slept through at 8 wks, ds1 11 wks and ds 2 is now 8 weeks and regularly sleeps 10pm - 6am, still occasionally wakes an hour or so earlier but never more than once.
dd and ds2 bothe slept 6 hours from birth - except for the odd night.
So I guess it depends entirely on the child.

My DD is 12 weeks old, she goes to sleep at about 7pm, we wake her for a feed at 11pm. For the past fortnight she's been sleeping until at least 6:30am, often later... except for last night when she woke at 4am but I think she's having a growth spurt.
