Does this look like a posterior tongue tie?

Maybe I'm clutching at straws because I want there to be a reason DD is so miserable but... does this look like it could be a posterior tongue tie?

She's 16 weeks. She had trouble latching at the beginning, which was put down to her being so small, so I've been using nipple shields since she was a few days old. I've tried several times to wean her away from them but she's not having it.

I was worried about her weight gain for the first few weeks because she only pooed every three days but the health visitor said it was fine cos she was maintaining on the second centile. She also had silent reflux for which we were given gaviscon, which alleviated it a bit.

But breastfeeding has got harder and harder as she's got older. She's mix fed now (bf and formula) because she will pretty much only take my breast if it's full and leaking, or if it's just for comfort. As soon as she has to work for the milk she starts screaming. And I mean SCREAMING. Inconsolably. I don't want to give up bf completely - formula is expensive, bottles are a faff, and I like that I can comfort her with it (as long as she's not hungry...). But I don't know how much longer I can do this.

If she does have a tongue tie though then maybe something can be done about it? Or at least I won't feel so bad about not being able to bf her.

It is a little hard to tell but I would say it is a possibility.

My sister had a tongue tie, only got it cut when she was 16 years old because she was going under to have another operation. Made sod all difference to her except making her recovery time longer!!

If it is a tongue tie, you can get it cut when they are very young and it doesn't hurt them.

Obviously, I have no idea whether it would be causing the problems you are saying. My sister had no problems; her biggest grievance is that she couldn't (and still can't!) lick an ice cream!!
