Breastfeeding - engorgement

rosyposy653 · 08/08/2020 07:53

I have been breastfeeding my daughter for 7 weeks now but one of my breasts is more enlarged than the other and gets more engorged. I try to feed equally on both sides but does anyone have any advice how to combat this please?

Also, another question related to breastfeeding as I believe it affects things...when should I expect my period to come back? Thank you.

Hi OP!

Try giving your small breast first then. The more your child feeds, the more your breast makes.

It took a good 2/3 months for me to stop bleeding and start having a very irregular period (it can take a bit to become regular again). Other mums seem to be much quicker. Tbh I was so focused on my DDs that I didn't even think about it :p do use a tracker afterwards (I have Clue) to check your period. (It could help if you become pregnant again quick)

Periods are different for everyone. Mine came back straight away, some people's don't come back until they stop feeding. You'll have to wait and see!

Re the lopsidedness. I never found a solution to this. I just fed from both sides equally but one is still bigger than the other. It's normal to produce more from one side.

Thanks @grey12 and @checkeres. That is really helpful 😊

It's quite normal for one side to produce more / be a faster feed / become more engorged / to be a preferred side. Hand express just enough to relieve any discomfort (no more, or you'll just end up producing more).

My periods returned between 9 and 18ish months after my babies.
