when I am not there. He is rooting a lot, and she said that the doctor had asked if they can give him a bottle when I am not there. I said no way, as I want to fully breastfeed, they can give him a cup or a feed down his tube, but no bottles. AIBU??

did they explain why they wanted to give a bottle? i personally dont see the problem. my ds was topped up with formula for the first 4 days.
he was always put on my breast to start - but as he was small and tired easily. then he was given colustrum via syringe that i had expressed, then finally topped up with formula.
he was over birthweight within 7 days, avoided scbu and by the time i came home at day 5 was exclusiively bfeeding. there was no breast/ bottle confusion at all.

i am grateful that they did the formula top ups.

Am surprised they asked if they know you want to bf. When my dd was born, she was fed by ng tube initially, but one of the first things they checked discussed with me was whether i'd be happy with them offering a dummy, and bottle. Once they knew I wanted to bf, they did cup feeding when i wasn't there and to supplement the bf (as she was on medication that made her v sleepy, and it was difficult getting started with bf). They also had the bf counsellor come and see me to ensure I got all the help I needed.

The nurse I spoke to today said they don't bottlefeed breastfed babies, so no idea why they asked..

well in that case sparkly- they are just plain stupid. for ds they were able to give me their reasons for wanting to give a bottle and all their reasons were for the benefit of my LO until my milk came in and he started having more energy to feed for longer at the breast...

He is feeding well now, and uses a cup when I am not there. There is plenty of EBM in the fridge, they said there is too much and will have to freeze some, as I am producing too much.
