Mastitis

Hi ladies,

I'm suffering from mastitis. It started with a red patch and lump above my nipple on my left boob. Kept feeding baby and did all the tricks like massaging, cabbage leaves, hot shower, warm compress etc. 2 weeks later I took antibiotics, the pains got worse one night and had to got to hospital for an ultrasound. They saw an angry & inflamed breast tissue. Prescribed antibiotics and on day 6 now but the pain just got worse tonight again.

I feed like mad during the day and pump at night. Boobs constantly leaking tonight for some reasons.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks xx

No real answers but lots of sympathy Thanks

Have you been told to pump at night? Sounds to me like that could just result in oversupply that prolongs the problem, I'd be hand expressing just enough for relief in your position - but you may have been advised by someone who knows more than me!

Have you looked on kellymom for advice? A lactation consultant might be able to help if you can afford one. The NHS is sometimes not well set up to help with breastfeeding! Lots of busy, stressed people where you need a relaxed and holistic approach.

Ive only ever got blocked ducts/threatened mastitis when I've been doing too much and over stressing myself, if you can somehow chill out for a bit it might help? Easier said than done I know!

Definitely go back to GP. Two weeks was a hell of a long time to wait for treatment. My GP always give antibiotics straight away.
