When can I stop waking my baby for three hourly feeds?

My DD is nearly three weeks old. We had weight gain issues and a posterior tongue tie which has now been divided, and we have got past birth weight (hurrah!).

She was quite sleepy early on, so needed waking for feeds. At the moment I clock watch and wake her to feed so that she isn't going even 3.5 hours without a feed, out of fear of weight loss. I was wondering at what point you can start to relax and trust baby to let you know when they are hungry? I have seen people say their babies slept six hours straight etc at a young age, which suggests they haven't been waking them every three hours.

Does anybody know? She is breastfed, so I know she will probably feed more than a FF baby.

I never woke my preemie who was tiny, she fed every 4 hours like clockwork (that part of her routine was awesome!)
Maybe speak to your HV or baby’s consultant?
Oh and don’t believe half of what you read about babies sleeping through the night....people love to compare and exaggerate!

My midwife and BD consultant said I could let my two week old sleep through as soon as he has passed his birth weight. He also has a tongue tie!

BF consultant. Not BD

My eldest had weight issues and I woke him to feed until a couple of months I think.

My youngest never lost any weight and she woke herself to feed every 3 hours at first and then stretched to 8 hours by 2 months.

Both breastfed.

If you're now back at birth weight you can try and let them wake naturally. I found it helped me to set a timer on my phone for 3 hours when I started feeding. When it went off at night I'd wake and could check on her until my confidence grew to just let her sleep.

Once they'd reach birth weight I was told for both of mine that they could go 6 hours over night. I bf both. The first one woke up every 2 hours regardless but the second started doing 4-6hour stretches from early on which was amazing!
